bestival, bestival- not in your chestival!

Post by poax » Sun Sep 10, 2006 11:38 pm

i can only offer my deepest apologies to the hedz that came to jam with us today(sunday) in the bigtop......
it was apparent from early that there was some serious lack of organisation and coordination.
i dont want to completely neg the whole thing off but as with kode9 & SpaceApes set the sub would just be cut off midway thru tracks as though we wouldnt notice. Its almost as though the sound engineers and techs dont really hold any kind of respect for the dj sets(even tho this was supposed to be a purely dj tent tonight) as i found when all of a sudden im surrounded by floral cyber hippy tossers in sarongs who are actually trying to soundcheck around us on the stage, all i could hear from the monitor is some little weasle who probably stinks of petuli oil to cover up the smell of sweat and ketamine sayin 1212121212121212121212121212121212121212121212121212121212222211112222111222121212121
so when they cut the sub for like the 5th time mala peeled the record off the deck and we stopped . so again sorry to messer tronman mr.asbo and all the real hedz who know what the sound is supposed to sound like . we didnt wanna walk it but the set was just a waste! i hope that you understand. bless.

Yeah, seems like Bestival wasn't really feeling dubstep... I just got an email from the black dog - they dropped some dubstep during their set and got booed by a few people...

... so they dropped another one.

that is fuckin weak, I really wanted to reach Bestival, mainly cos they'd taken the plunge and booked some dubstep when all the other 'big' fests had ignored it.

Very glad I didn't spunk a few hundred squid on the weekend now, that woulda soured it for me big time.

sounds like a typical festival affair- only worrying about sound for bands and not giving a fuck about dj's, I'm with thinking glad i didnt spunk a load of cash on it

I feel extremely disappointed by what happened.

The lack of organsation and respect from the crew working back stage in the Big Top was second to none.

Big up the drummer who's band were playing after us.... drumming out of time on his drum kit whilst i'm trying to mix. Much respect for that!

To be honest I'd have to write an essay to explain exactly what happened but its not important really. What done is done..!
But I hope the people in the tent understood why I could no longer play music. Gutted.

It was such a shame because when the sound was coming through nicely Big vibes in the Big Top people were letting off pure good vibes!

Giving thanks for the support and the oppotunities.

I wonder... would a small dubstep festival next year work?

I wonder... would a dubstep / dub tent at the Big Chill work? I mention BC because it has very good vibes, beautiful surroundings, excellent organisers who know what they're doing and have always supported both reggae and electronica... terrrrrrrrribly niiiiiiiiiiiiice of course...

Sounds like a bit of a mess :(

Slight problem in playing these kinda places is that sometimes the management don't realise that this music NEEDS subs..

Hmm, not sure if the big chill is the best festival for it. It might be a bit too dark for chillers, as while there is plenty of more upbeat dubstep out there, i would be gagging for something a bit meaner, and i dont know if your average "lets check this out, it has 'dub' in the name" chillers would really get it.

I dont see why glade doesnt have a dubstep evening though, i mean, vex'd played this year...but im not a vex'd fan to be honest!

a few vocal members of the BC forums tried and tried to talk people into booking Mystikz for the Big Chill this summer, to no avail - crying shame cos I think it would have been a surprise hit with everyone.

I did check Plaid's DJ set tho - dropped Vex'd, Skreamz, Moving Ninja, 30hz, plenty of dubstep and dirty breaks...

And no, somehow I don't think the scene is big enough to support a festival atm.

Interesting feedback on the Big Chill... might have to re-involve myself there...

Sounds like Mala's experience was pretty much identical to the Black Dog's...

Plaids set was the biggest of the festival for me, and its a very good point. It was a nasty, nasty set but still seemed to go down a treat (well, it did right at the front anyway!) still, i cant see them booking any dubstep on its own, not sure if its the right festival.

stoopid init - Plaid was playing heavy, dirty, acid breaks that wouldn't have been out of place @ Glade or any other 'dance music' festival, certainly not something I actually expected at Big Chill. Thank fuck he was there tho, by Sat nite I badly needed some proper heavy tuna & bass to get my teeth into.

BC are too bloody right-on for their own good if you arks me - they worry about not offending the middle-of-the-road pillocks with too much 'specialist music', when they're the ones who will buy a ticket regardless of the lineup.
