practical results fellas.
this could be the aniversary of a day that made millions of americans submissive to fear for five years and you can keep on crying about it,
but i think its important to remember our loss, this year and also remember that it was a crime perpetrated by a government against its people.

i think it is important, therefore, to leave this subject completely open for comment, no matter how offensive these comments may seem. goddamn.
or should we make sept 11 the national "death makes me sad" day?

bigger issues at stake, yeah?

if you grew up in new york, and watched that building collapse that morning... it's different. it's not like watching it on cnn. it's surreal still. it still makes you angry. it still makes you humble & thankful for being alive. our city was a warzone; no electricity, no subway, no cell phones, troops on the street, tanks on the bridges, smoke, dust, confusion. a wake up call.
i'm not trying to suggest that our foreign policy choices afterwards were the right ones, nor am i trying to say that american blood is any better than afghan blood or whatever. i'm just trying to check some of the attitude in this thread, that it's not in jest, because none of this is humorous.

death in your hometown is upsetting, and i hope you can see it from that perspective.

in 1 month in Iraq there are more deaths than the entire death toll @ the towers and the Iraqi's had fuck all to do with it (proven by the US itself)! yet 38% of Americans still think Saddam was behind it!

are you one of those peeps who claim it to be an inside job?

Well then, blame the media. It's not the victims' fault that they've been made martyrs....and nor does the heavy media attention somehow make the tragedy trivial.

I think regardless of what we feel about the war on terror, people dying like that isn't something that should be taken lightly, and we should respect our bredren and sistren on this one. It's their loss and shouldn't be considered any less for the retaliation of their leaders. A bit of empathy here I think guys.

Or blame the people who have overly sentimental reactions to it..

With all due respect to anyone on here who was affected by 9/11.And lets face it we all have been in some way or other. It does leave a bad taste in my mouth the amount of attention it gets, right or wrong. If you consider the miner footnotes other "news stories" get. In term of actuel dead people it's really miner.
It does seem that the media values a western life more dearly than the tens of thousands who have died since.

Should we have Iraqi or Afghani dubsteppers, I'm sure we'd stretch our sympathies to them too. But as far as I know we don't. We do however have a great deal of US peeps on here though, who by and large seem to be pretty decent folk. Trying to score political points from folks who may well have lost friends and/or family in that incident is not a good thing to try. If you want to attack foreign policy do it, but don't piss on peoples memories.

Fair enough, but in light of how corporate media functions is it really that surprising? 9/11 was such a "made-for-media" event, that it's not really a shock that they would want to re-roll those tapes every chance they get.

Fair point. Probably should have not put it up. I did ask seckle to delete it though, when i realised what a inconsiderate thing to do it was.

I think it's quite relvealing that everyone thought it was a piss take.

it doesn't reveal anything - you asked a weird rhetorical question that didn't make much sense and people assumed - not knowing you for the perfectly safe guy you probably are - that it was one of those wanky 'ooh look at me i'm different from the prevailing trends cause i'm taking the piss' forum threads.

please allow the relativism - 'this event is more tragic than this event because more people died'. not how it works ya get me, especially not if you're from new york.

nah worries mate :) i actually know you're safe because boomnoise has told me so and his word is truth.

anyway that sentence about relativism wasn't directed at you, but at people saying '3,000 died in new york but what about all those that died in afghanistan, iraq, darfur...' and so on and so forth. comparing relative numbers of dead people places you on very dodgy ground imo.

the issues that have arisen post-9/11 need discussing, the issues need addressing more to the point, but it's not a fucking competition ok.

Yeah, and one of those was me, so sorry for that

I do rather take argument as sport at some points so need to remember that some people don't have that level of detachment on this. Wrist duly slapped
