Idiocracy - New Mike Judges film

Post by shonky » Tue Sep 12, 2006 11:33 am

Not a mad film buff, but this looked really good - anyone get to see it?

Loved Office Space, spoke more truth than some studios put out in a decade so hoping this makes it over here, but seems it's message is rather at odds with Fox's.
Hmm....

This sounds fantastic.

Actually scratch that. This sounds scarily realistic.

From what I've read up about it, small release stateside (no major cities, but loads of plays in Texas, Judge's state) but only played at about 130 theatres nationwide (big screenings get 2500-3000). Some people reckoning it might be corporate pressure as some big companies getting slagged blind, but the reviews generally seem pretty favourable.

Think it'll probably go straight to DVD and may not even come out over here, which is a shame as Office Space is undoubtedly one of my fave films of all times.
Hmm....

saw this the other night, and it is not anything worth clearin your schedule for...

the movie is a bit too silly for my tastes, but if watchin stupid rubes spit inane dialog is your thing, go for it. otherwise, you gotta get insanely, retardedly high to make up for the lack of any intelligent commentary (i didnt, and thats probably why i didnt enjoy it that much).
imo, it had a decent idea/concept, but the delivery fell short of his previous work addressing the lack of intelligence in american culture (ie. beavis & butthead and king of the hill), and it doesnt even come close to 'office space', but few movies have.

a certain htown gangsta rapper does make a guest appearance as a cursory role, though, and sadly, that was the highlight of the film for me.

From what I heard though, some execs put the kibosh on adding effects, etc to the movie and fucked with the budget, but this might be a tad conspiratorial

yeah, the studio sat on it for like 2 years, and then just pooped it out at the end of the summer with little to no promotional work.

honestly, dont think the budget really effected the resultant product...maybe shouldve gotten someone instead of a wilson brother to play the lead, if $$$ was an issue. although he probably is buds with judge and hooked him up.

this probably would do better on dvd with some commentary, and maybe a documentary on the making of, and the trials & tribulations of gettin it out a la 'Lost in La Mancha'.

i neglected to mention that i can be a movie snob, so please take my views with a grain of salt. :D

very controversial stateside release by fox

apparently judge was not pleased with the outcome

opened in seven cities, three of which are in texas. shot in austin texas with mostly austin crew [wilson also calls atx home]

anyway, id still like to see it. i dont care much for wilson, but whatev, i like what ive read so far. though i doubt ill pay to see it in the theatre
