@mmjdw : Thanks for the feedback. I think you are right about the kick being too quiet, so I will raise the level up a bit.

@Colourless : I am glad you like it! Cheers! I will leave you some comments about your tracks tomorrow!

@ObsidiaMusic - nice. i feel like you could go a bit heavier with the high hats though, maybe just throw in some crazy variations that give it a little more energy, cux those filthy basses sound like theyre asking for it. overall, nice (and yes ill second the kick drum being quiet)

@Mouldy Soul - that intro's cool, haven't heard too much stuff like that. once it gets into it though it doesnt really work for me. i think it could be the drum pattern, just feels like it needs to get more interesting somewhere and make it a little bit less thin. (think someone said some reverb, but don't go crazy with that cuz i think it would detract from the glitchy feel that gives the track a nice appeal). mix is solid.

@tomm - yess. something real sweet about this for how simple it sounds. i dont listen to the ambient stuff often but id love to keep this at the ready at all times. i dont even want to tell you to do anything different cuz i like it as is, but something kept telling me a solo synth line was gonna come in somewhere. i think it could benefit just that extra little bit if you wrote a cool, catchy synth line that maybe had some funky pseudo-jazz feel to it, i dont know. feels like it has endless possibilities, maybe just explore them a little bit more.

@mmjdw - incredibly crisp and interesting chord progression, definitely works. i dont want to say too much cuz this style is way out of my realm but i think the crashes that come in here and there sound a bit too stocky, maybe widen em up a bit, just a thought.

@bradicle - breakdown in the middle seems a bit too lengthy, but other than that... me likey a lot. cool balance of chill and energetic, cant find too much of that stuff which is great :D

here is my very early work in progress, feel free to give me some inspirational ideas as well as criticism. thanks

@Snoopexx: i'm feelin it, your instruments seem to be layed out and nicely mixed. however, the track needs more variety, and more progression. what u got so far is really good, keep it up, i'm loving the track's atmosphere

@MouldySoul: i really like the synths in the track, keeps my interest up, but i'm not too sure about your snare. try experimenting a bit more with it. the ideas are there, but it just seems like u need to play a bit more with the snares, they just sound a little weak to me.

@Obsidia: really dope synth work, sounds hollow but heavy (can't describe it, i just really like it haha). u just need to play around with the volumes, some things are louder than others and they kinda take over. i reckon the kicks should be higher and snares a little lower. the snares are snappy enough to be heard well even if they're turned down jusssst a little bit (say if they're at -10, put them at -11).

here's something i'm working on. this is completely out there, very experimental stuff i've been playing with... dunno if it's good or horrible, i'd like to hear any kind of feedback. thanks!

Mouldy Soul wrote:@Airiabam, that was the best piece of feedback anyone has ever given me thank you, :) Really know whaat you mean about the static tembre, it's just I've tried a few effects like phasing and ring mod but becasue it's quite a thin sound in very specific band of frequencies it sounds kinda shit, but I've had people nagging me to chuck some more layers in, I might try cutting all the guitar parts up and quantising it all to the beat, as opposed to the played in thing it is there, maybe that will help it gel in the mix better but seriously cheers, great feedback :)
Aww glad I could help! As far as helping with the static timbre, saturation works well. In Logic, the tape delay and exciter plugins are helpful for adding movement and body to sound. Frequency shifters could be useful for getting bizarre things from it, and reverbs/chorus might help you set it in stereo space better. Also, automated filters also go a long way, especially with several instances of a single track, so layering could definitely help there.
About progging your track I had a listen agin, and what I reckon you could do is separate the parts into different sections for easier mixing, like all the ones you want being percussive chuck em all to a bus, and high pass the lot the so you take out all the lows, then you have space for your bass. I reckon some other crazy minimal synths could come in instead of that repeated one, or open the filter on it gradually so it changes tembre as you put it, like the glitches maybe you can some more question and answer with a synth and the glitch, and try and articulate back and fourth, but definite cutting of the lows that arent the bass and maybe some compression to stop peaking innit :)
I revised it -- tried to mix it better, get the phrase structure better and introduce some evolution too. I really like how it's progressing now -- it's still lacking dynamic range, but part of that's the character of the piece. Still work left to be done, but I like it better now.

@dub2play

Pretty sick sample you've used, well retained, love the way it fades into the song, however the tune itself i feel needs more character, set about tweaking the frequency and resolution, maybe add some chorus onto it too.

@Hakka

The calling is SO Sick, seriously, the only thing i could say was, in my opinion, the drums should be more processed, but other than that, its a banger for sure.

@Colorless - 1st song - ok I really love the vibey intro here but I will be honest, the bass is too fast or something, it just seems like too much all at once, also some variance in the melody and lfo speed or something a little more often would be nice. also your kick and snare sound really weak too me probably the bass is too loud in the mix. Power up your drums man! - sorry to be harsh but I would rather tell people what really needs improving.

2nd song - Great vibes once again man I like this one a lot more than the first, the reverby delayed out shit sounds awesome! I cannot hear your sub at all tho man with my woofer turned all the way up even. unless that was what you were going for with just the kick as sub. Once again the atmosphere is great tho.

3rd song - this is the best one so far. the drums are so cool man good work there and I really like the lead synth. is there a reason none of your songs have any hihats?

4th song - another great start here your sub here sounds the best. once again your snare and kick sound really quiet in the mix like the toms or tongas or whatever sound louder than them to me.

@Dub2play - hey cool idea for an intro, I was kind of skeptical at first but the drop made it all good :D Personally I do not like that dude's voice at all tho. Your sound design is great, terrific reese manipulation! your snare sounds kind of weak as does the kick to me , maybe boost them a little bit, and maybe even lower those white-noisy hihats a little bit because they were honestly kind of blotting out the snare. overall great start!

@Venture - holy fuck sick bass noise mind telling me what processing that is going through? it sounds fucking sick. My only complaint once again like most of the tunes i have been listening to on here is that your drums just sounds really weak right now in the mix, like your hihats are louder than the kick it seems.

@Mars - sick bass noise mang, once again mind telling me what kind of processing that has going on? sick song tho man I am digging this one

@airlabam interesting, your snare sounds really squishy which is kind of turning me off, The noises are cool and stuff but something about this song is failing to make me nod my head from my own knowledge I can't tell you really what is causing that maybe the bass is not playing a consistent enough rythm or something, it seems kind of all over the place.

@Hakka - cool and great mixdown but the sounds just seem really cliche to me, like I have heard that same synth line b4 it sounds like. But if your going for that cool kind of early 2000 sounds then by all means proceed!

Anway here is the chorus to a new tune im working on, really basic atm but im working hard on it please tell me what you think, don't be afraid to be harsh or of coming off liek an asshole or whatever I am looking to get a lot better so tear into me!

@ p3rt2k8 - Kinda a bit benga/flying lotusy I like it.. maybe fatten the kick up a bit? but that might not fit that sorta music...

@ Mars - Nice vibes (although I have been known to like the biggest shit before...) Only advice could be to fill it out a bit more, but it might not work with that weird kinda tune. (Your avatar actually made me touch the screen, I no longer feel intelligent enough to give advice)

Anyways feedback would be cool, all returned of course. Not really sure where to go with this, kinda liking the outro vibe...

@ Lordbid - Thank you very much for the feedback, much appreciate, ive acted on most of what you've said, you can see what ive done today to improve them at the end of this post.
Furthermore, as a chorus, i feel your tune works pretty well, but might need some originality thrown into it because its seems a bit dull and too repetitive. Play around till you find a good noise.

@ p3rt2k8 - First track - pretty good synth youve got going on in the back ground, in my opinion it should be bought up a few levels.
Again, i dont feel any character in the bass, play around.

@Funicular - good job rewiring it all. The track itself seems pretty decent, but it doesnt blend very well, a chorus effect and/or small reverb might help fix this problem, but im not a pro, so i dont really know, but try it out.

To you all, sometimes the best thing you can do if a riddim or a vibe isnt working, is to just delete that part of it, or completely rework it.

@UnitedFruits - Rubba Dub Dub! Nice one man, liking the off beats in the first have. One thing I would do is take a sub bassline from the synth that comes in at 0.14 and use it at some point in the second half, just to built some energy after the guitar solo, maybe around 2.20 cos that synth's got a real good groove to it, then maybe add some off bat ride or hats or percussion and build it all up to a drop. Awesome tune man.

@p3rt2k8 - Only thing I'd say about thb-nu-track is there's alot of low-mids in the wow bass that cloud the track up and don't really let that kick hit through, maybe a bit of side chaining from a muted kick would give it more pump. Moving-Forward is cool, I'd personally bass that wobble and distort it with a low-cut to give it some growl, really liking the low end on this tune.

@hakka - hakka-fracture has a sick synth on the go, summer vibes indeed sir! needs a bit of the ol' 80hz region from around 1.42 to make it sound like the tune has arrived. Maybe cut back on the reverb on the vocal sample to bring it to the front. Other than that, we got a banger!

Here's a couple of tunes needing some work,

This a bit more chilled, try to make it as weightless as possible...
