well the fact that you can embed your results as a download in your post without having to upload to soundcloud before makes these threads a lot easierdeadly habit wrote:the difference between those DOA threads and the ones on here is that the guys will experiment about trying to replicate something, share what they did and it keeps building upon that by people who are after techniques and not specific i wanna sound exactly like this give me exact settings

that, and the extremely high number of posters who are skilled in the magic art of resampling (as in turning an 808 kick into nasty warbliness, not just bouncing and chopping up), which still is being explored around here. maybe give it a couple of months and it's become common knowledge, who knows maybe then we'll have a wave of foley threads

idk man... maybe we do need more threads like that. something where the adept producers and the ones wanting to be can have fun rather than posting "this has been asked before" or explaining what a filter is.
edit: oh and about the techniques rather than specific sound part... the sad thing is, if i would for example post a "how do i make this type of sound" thread it would trigger the skrillex reflex and have people pointing me out to the 'help me make this sound' thread when all i wanted was having fun with others reverse-engineering a sound to learn new techniques and approaches.
another example: if someone would post some fucked up gabba tune and say "hey guys lets try and break this stuff down" people would probably think "duh i wouldnt want a gabba kick in my tune" and dismiss it as crap, but it's not about the gabba kick itself, it's about how you get there. who knows maybe a highpassed gnarly kickdrum with a long release could work well with a bassline, look at that von d tune for example.
maybe a bad example because gabba kicks are simple as fuck but you get the idea
