Oddly, I have lost most of my go-to techniques... i enjoyed using Reason for about 6 years, and then i felt like everything sounded "Reasony" so i am now using Ableton, and pretty open-format with it.

How to use whole song?

Post by Handfulofsnacks » Fri Jun 03, 2011 6:18 am

I have reason 5 and recycle, and im trying to figure out how to sample a whole song onto reason. like get the entire song onto reason, then mix/edit it from there. I also had a quick question with dr. octo rex. after i've imported my sample i cant figure out how to make it stop looping in the sequencer when i want it to. help appreciated

see in the top right hand corner where it says 'enable loop playback' turn that off.

I wouldn't suggest putting a whole song into reason. as it is played as a sample file and you can't skip half way through the track and play it from there, you have to play the sample from the begining.

if anything throw your track into audacity, cut it up. then stick all the parts into reason.

why dont you want to put a whole track in reason anyway?

My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.

Load the sample into the NN-19 and draw the sample to start in the sequencer with lots of little midi notes like 32nds in rapid succession, automate the little knob in the top right I think called "sample start". Voila, glitchy ass time-stretch.

digital audio is digital audio. i don't miss anything about Logic.
not entirely accurate. i did a reverse phase test of all the vst samplers and daw's i had at that time.
the only 2 products that had artifacts after reverse phase comparing were halion and reason.
reason was very very low level high frequency. so your not losing much.
halion how ever was all over the place, looked like it might have a built in compressor when you load a sample

very cool patch inside, need help tweaking it

Post by ajw » Tue Jun 07, 2011 2:32 am

I have this Reason patch (very similar to a sound used by skrillex in Cinema) but I can't get sound to come out of the right side. It uses a subtractor, and I think for some reason the mono output is messing with the sound.

If someone could help me get this patch to make sound out of both channels that would be awesome.

didnt look at your patch not on my normal pc
with reason if you just connect the left channel in the mixer the sound will come out as mono

so your saying reason samplers colour the sound? what did you compare it to? were the levels matched perfectly? a lot of things can go wrong when comparing samplers in different software. they might react to midi velocity in different ways.

any certificate in this life is good to impress an employer.
given it fits in with that role.
