There any "teens" in here that listen to real dubstep?
Re: There any "teens" in here that listen to real dubstep?
I'm 17 and living in the SF Bay Area. I started with "real" dubstep, old Skream was what really started me off, probly sometime around summer 2009. Went slowly more filthy until eventually one day I realized I hated it, and began listening to darker and deeper tracks. Nowadays here almost everyone my age is listening to brostep, mostly skrillex and other shit music, i can only think of about 10 people I know who listen to any good dubstep.

Being registered is of course confirmation of liking Dubstep. I was knocking around at Grime/Garage transition days, with Midnight Request Line blaring through my headphones; it just wasn't official.garethom wrote:Lol, being registered to DSF isn't some sort of confirmation that you liked dubstep. My mates brother was playing El-B tracks to me and my mate when I was about 10/11. I liked it before it was even dubstep. I didn't join DSF till the end of last year though, I was content just reading it.Lectric wrote:listener for 3 years yet only a member since december 2010kole1337 wrote:15 now, been listening since i was 12

I'm 16, completely gone off brostep and stuff like that, I think if I never had heard RSD - Kingfisher early on I'd be listening to complete shite. No one over here likes good dubstep, although I gave this girl I know both the Burial albums on Saturday, she loves them, progress.

Yes. I'm American and 17, and I love real dubstep. A while back I had a phase for about a month or two when I liked some 'brostep' but quickly got bored because all I heard was yoi-yoi-yoi... with the same build-ups... and the same drops.... and practically the same everything. It gets boring quickly. I snapped out of that phase and returned to real Dubstep, along with some artists that have been considered "Post-Dubstep" but honestly its just dubstep with more variety.Clean wrote:I guess this is a weird way to introduce myself but you will have to manage, and I know there have been a million topics about Skrillex, etc but here me out. I am from the US, so we usually get a bad rep for our contribution to the "dubstep" genre. To be honest I don't think we have contributed anything to the dubstep genre. We have made the train wreck of a genre called brostep.( Well I dont know if we can take all the credit for it.)To get to my point, I see Americans, and mostly kids being stereotyped all the time for listening to brostep, as it has started to get even more mainstream. I am a teenager, and I cannot stand brostep. I have to deal with other kids talking about how awesome Skrillex's tunes are, even though his synths all sound the same, and when I try to introduce my friends some real dubstep tracks I get "This isnt dubstep, and besides it sound like the same thing repeating itself." God it is starting to bother to me. I havent found a single person my age that listens to real dubstep. I really do not want to ramble on so I will get to my point.
- Are there any teens that listen to real dubstep?(Loefah, Mala, Coki, Scuba, Goth Trad)
- Are there any American artists that produce dubstep that does not sound like kittens being grinded up in a blender?
Feel free to tell me your opinions, I want to here what you have to say. Have a nice day... or night.
But my love with always be real dubstep, also future garage is becoming a favorite. But I can also attest that many of my friends do not consider real dubstep artists to be dubstep... For instance... one day I was in a friends car and his Ipod is full of DatsiK, Excision and Skrillex, so I plugged my Ipod in to play some tunes and chose to play Dutch Flowers by Skream... and then Raver by Burial... he didn't like either of them... My mind was blown. But hes getting there I guess.. I've grabbed his interest with artists like Mount Kimbie and Scuba.. Its going to take ages.. But everyone else I know doesn't even give a seconds thought about what they just consider "weird music"

Re: There any "teens" in here that listen to real dubstep?
This is also considering the fact that I live in Norfolk, Virginia... Where either you like mainstream hip-hop/rap or you like Coldplay or A Day To Remember. And likely if you live here your extensive knowledge of EDM only consists of Basshunter, Cascada and Skrillex....

Re: There any "teens" in here that listen to real dubstep?
Listening to dubstep since 17.
Dubstep collects many many influences, that there really is no real dubstep. Dubstep is more a movement of many different styles and all definitions you can make about it have been broken.
I just liek rhythm and dubstep gives me variety.
@Dosva: If you want to change something, start DJing.
Also: I liek Dubstep because its weird, whout should music sound like? Normal?

Re: There any "teens" in here that listen to real dubstep?
i was 18 when i first got into dubstep (23 now) and there was only the deeper side around. to answer your question about people in America producing real dubstep. In the San Francisco/Bay Area scene we've been there from near the beginning with several great producers such as DJG, Jus Wan, Juju, Roommate, Djunya, Matty G...to name a few. America had some great DJs pushing the scene early on such as Joe Nice (NY) and Sam Supa (SF). Many of those same people are still around making/pushing dubstep or bass music influenced stuff.
Speaking from my experience in the San Francisco scene, what I think is the biggest problem for dubstep in America is that it was a 21+ scene before. For 3 years I couldn't even see a show in San Francisco. There were only a few people I knew who were under the age of 21 that liked dubstep (maybe a total of 10). The scene didn't advertise to or include the--now--younger generation who found dubstep in 2009-2010 coming off electro and stuff. And now those are all the people promoting/producing/listening to 'brostep'. Had the scene been more geared to 18+ or all ages I'm sure the scene as a whole in San Francisco (maybe all of America) would be a lot deeper to this day.
Anyways I also produce stuff on the darker side of things and know a lot of producers/dj in the area who do the same, but also there are kids from when i was in high school who are now all about Skrillex and filth.
Also recently saw Skream and Benga play and Skream dropped "Midnight Request Line"...kids didn't know about the request line haha Sam Supa and I were backstage going crazy. Mind blowing that kids today don't know these tunes.

GOD YOU GUYS ARE MORE MATURE THAN I WAS AT THAT AGE.
Re: There any "teens" in here that listen to real dubstep?
This, descibes me almost exactly minus the listening to ChrispyFused Productions wrote:Yes I do.
I started listening to dubstep through them bassy Rusko Tracks, do remember it was Cockney Thug that really got me interested. Then I started moving towards the real bro stuff like Chrispy and Flux Pavilion, tafter that I started listening to the more chilled out music, dungeon and also older releases of dubstep.
I also started producing as a bro. Now I don't do that much anymore, I find it more interesting to capture a more chilled vibe while going low in with my basslines.
Oh, I'm 16.

Re: There any "teens" in here that listen to real dubstep?
I got introduced to dubstep when I was 18 at my first year in uni. Id listened to drum and bass since I was about 16, and most DJs seemed to be playing both styles on the nights that I went too. I remember the first time I went to a big night, and Mad Professor was playing on Dillinjas Valve sound system. The bass was silly.
What is there for people under the age of 21 to do in the US in terms of seeing DJs? Do they run nights for under 21s at all? We get spoiled in the UK really

Now there are a lot of parties and stuff for dubstep, but back then there wasn't much for underage people. In San Francisco they're really strict about 21 so the insurance for 18+ and all ages is generally too high for smaller clubs. Especially back then there wasn't a huge group of people going out the shows anyways. I only know about a few other cities, but it seemed that the money wasn't there to make most nights 18+. Electro was much bigger here and had several big +18 nights and those seem to be the same kids that are into 'brostep' now.djamesh wrote: What is there for people under the age of 21 to do in the US in terms of seeing DJs?
