the way i see it it will be joked about in the future by a lot of people now saying its too soon....theres no moral difference

93 people died in norway and it wasnt self inflicted on the same day
dads are killing themselves to feed their kids in somalia due to having not a scrap of food to eat

but ah bless she could sing!

i didnt personally enjoy her music and never met her, its as equally sad as one person dying through self inflicted ways

im sure in death she will sell a load of records to hypocritical idiots that are only interested now due to a mixture of conformity and morbid curiosity

we at hmv will hopefully see another jackson sales boost

what did she ever do for anyone other than sing?

a mate of mine jumped in front of a train 2 months ago...he was troubled and didnt take any drugs..there was a genuinely moving outpouring from people that knew him on facebook but not from strangers...being famous clearly makes you a better person

That's not what people are saying. Surely, anyone who knows of your friend's death would feel sympathetic about it. What people are saying is that there's no sense in devaluing life over such trivial shit

More profitable for the record company not to help her and let her die...

Sorry, that's conspiracy territory, but IMO probably was discussed in some boardroom at Universal.

"What are we going to do about winehouse? She's not making any monay for us? Rehab is expensive."
"Well, if she dies then she'll be a musical martyr and we'll be quids in"

hmmm

RIP

Is life being devalued here or is value being added because of celebrity status/talent? I wonder.
Perhaps it has something to do with those mirror neurons mentioned in another thread...

a talented and popular singer dying has a more profound effect than a talentless (not their fault they were busy) somalian starving

No. It's a central tenet of civilized society.

i have no problem with it being joked about... the world is full of pricks like us who are cynical and joke about shit too soon.

No problem with blaming her and saying it was her fault. It likely was her fault. Her death was likely (at least in part) self inflicted

my issues are with people saying she deserved to die.... more so those invoking god into the whole argument.

the amount of facebook statuses that i've seen where people seem HAPPY she's dead! ridiculous

often the same people dropping that shit-arsed argument about Norway, as if one somehow is more worthy than the other because people are too thick to apply their own values and ignore the media coverage they're ignorantly being spoonfed; the same media coverage they're lapping up and valuing is the same they're denouncing with the comparison - again, ridiculous

and the shit, shit, shit jokes... i mean, really bottom-of-the-barrel, is FINE, ofcourse, how could it not be cos after all, it would be stupid to think that there are some things that although you CAN joke about, a) its not really funny to, and b) its not sensible to

i COULD make a load of jokes about dead Norwegians... cos people are gona do that in the future

but im not thick as pigshit and know that sometimes its responsible and sensible to wait to make jokes about serious events, because my moral landscape isn't described in a few episodes of South Park

I have beef with people who are happy and celebrate peoples deaths. It makes me fucking sick, if I'm honest. Even Bin Laden, for example, people were happy of his death. Yes he was a bad man, but in celebrating the fact that he died made 'civilized' people seem barbaric.

And people are celebrating Amy's death because she did drugs? Sort your fucking selves out.

who really benefits from comparing 1 death to millions of people in porverty or a hundred other unfortunate deaths?

It's definately not the starving or dead people is it.

A person who compares it is actually just wanting to justify and rationalize their lack of empathy towards one person because of the thought that; 'hundreds/thousands /millions of other people are dying a perhaps more 'self-dignified' death' is a little more comforting
zerbaman wrote:

this ^

if you dont have empathy for the deceased do you have empathy towards the alive and mourning?

people died, other people are upset,
and your personal opinions makes you feel ok to not feel anything towards it.

some people need to recognize them selves and their behavioural patterns a lot more. When something happens, you have been conditioned and inclined to react in a certain way, for any given event. it empowers you to feel justifed in your actions no matter how clouded the reasoning actually is.

you have to hold back with the self-importance and find out what it actually is you're grasping for.

this kind of moralising and telling people what's 'sensible' is just some sort of control mechanism.
