They carry loads of weight. Theyr'e isolated to 200hz [with some top end aswell] so they cut through the mix really nicely.

They just pack a punch. :W:

That's really good, nice job :W: Tune is bangin' btw
wow, really impressed with these drums. You definitely nailed it. I was gonna add one more thing (that im pretty sure hasnt been said yet) that I have noticed with making snares and kicks, and i think is almost entirely what KOAN does...is that you can get a sweet punch from building drums from scratch from the oscillators like in TAL Noisemaker or Operator. They sound kind of like lasers, but when you eq them up around 200 and layer them under some standard white noise, its pretty quick and easy

massive snare hits?

Post by bigdaveo11 » Wed Jan 18, 2012 11:50 pm

hey guys,

wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get these huge snare hits. They make an incredible "thwack" sound if you will haha. I assume multiple layers and compression as well as the right samples. appreciate any advice. The first track isn't dubstep but the snare reminds me of lots of similiar dubstep snare sounds.

this one is more of a synthesized sound I believe not necessarily a snare perhaps but I really admire that sound.

everyone has their own techniques, i dont layer as much lately since it takes too much of my time.
for me its all about parallel limiting, parallel distortion etc done with very careful EQing.
i use extreme settings on the limiter and distortion with the input high and output low with mostly the dry signal coming through.
tbh it really is mainly about EQing though.

This. I promise you guys.

Forget all that layering etc, it's too hit and miss. If the sample isn't good enough to start with then forget it.

Haha good edit. Tbh I'm happy being compared to those two. Pretty much the biggest artist at the moment and a guy who has a really cool sound.
I'll have that. :)

Oh it was basically 8 bars which had my snare in it. But I made sure you wouldn't be able to sample the snare from that clip haha.

No, I'm talking about that 32 sec clip from the mediafire link. Now THAT'S a tune with a good snare. What is that? What are they saying in that song?
