All about the power of the mind.Dub_freak wrote:They don't exist...RandoRando wrote:How do you explain poltergeists then, or evp's of evil spirits or ghosts?Phigure wrote:not really, it's completely explainable by common sense. the mind is a powerful thing. they're basically crazy people and the exorcism works through the placebo effect.RandoRando wrote:I want to be a Christian. Read some Lyall Watson - SuperNature or any of his other writings.
He met a child in the UK that could turn tennis balls inside out without touching them.
He mentions a women working in a factory and any room she walked past would literally fall apart.
Machines breaking , etc.
Pictures flying off walls, floating furniture, etc.
All can be attributed to the power of the mind.

^ surely you can't be serious
The mind is a powerful thing, but that just sounds like utter bullshit.

I'm pretty sure this Lyall Watson guy is just mentally ill.

Nah I've never heard of the guy so I can't really be commenting on that. But seriously though, do you believe that? And why?
The mind is indeed a powerful thing, but making furniture fly with your mind is a bit too much for me.

Re: An image that got me wondering
I think one thing that often gets overlooked in this debate is agnosticism, being agnostic seems far more rational than atheism, if there is no evidence either for or against the existence of any type of deity then it's impossible to reach a conclusion in either direction...
I don't "beleive" in any type of God but I cannot rule out that it is a possibility (albeit an incredibly slim one)
Most people who know me would describe me as an atheist becuase of my extreme dislike of organised religion but that is just a criticism of the organisations, not a blanket statement that there is no God
If anyone flat out say's that there is no God then this is as much a statement of faith as saying there definitely is a God, you cannot prove that there is no God so to make such statements is a bit hypocritical if you also accuse religious people of blindly follwing their faith.
Agnosticism is the only rational answer as far as im concerned
The way i see it is you can beleive what you want but just don't be evangelical about your beliefs and force it on others and don't indoctrinate children before they are old enough to question things for themselves in a rational, critical manner.

You would not believe some of the backwards ass debates happening around the republican primary right now...
These are topics that no slightly-intelligent person even considers...
Just a day or two ago - Santorum said that he didn't understand why we have a division between church and state...
I just thought - That's it - You're done...

how is this guy candidate ?
is there any chance of him winning?
Re: An image that got me wondering
its a cluster fuck to the white house
yeah, there's a chance. its all kinds of fucked up here
My fav. was Romney being asked a debate question and saying "Y'know we really ought to be talking about jobs and the economy, so...."
moderator reminds him of the question at hand
Romney: "well that's the answer i want to give"
They just sidestep the ones they don't feel like addressing. it's insulting.

We go around a bend on this road we live near, its kind of a big curve alongside some woods, which have a high chain link fence separating the roadside from the woods
All of a sudden on our way around the bend, we all see a figure in the middle of the road very suddenly kind of appearing in our line of vision
it is lurching like some kind of injured bipedal humanoid, but doesn't have features.. It's difficult to look at, in a weird way. Like if you ever put two magnets with the same pole against each other and they're pushing away from each other, thats EXACTLY what my eyes felt like against this figure. It looks like the figure is made out of negative space, as in its outline stands and moves like the shape of a humanoid but the body's "fill" (imagine paint or any graphics program with a "fill" tool) is like the deepest black-hole blackness you've ever seen. darker than darkness, like swallowing light..
It's lurching toward the middle of the lane we're driving in, just as we roll past at about 45mph. No one says a thing... but i turned immediately in the back seat to see wtf. And i turn around knowing i just saw something, trying as hard as i can to lock my eyes onto it and my eyes just have that magnet feeling getting pushed away really hard. but i locked in, my eyes were like wiggling. And i watched the figure lurch into the shadow of one of the trees on the roadside and disappears into thin air. 5 seconds of silence go by and i'm starting to think im going nuts, when the driver announces "OK, if no one else just saw that shit, we're gonna have a fucking problem right now." So we all were like YES WTF WAS THAT. and apparently it looked tiny to the driver (like 4 foot tall), and humongous to the other passenger (he thought it looked like an 8ft yhetti). i thought it looked average height, but in a weird way it had no depth. Like a rip in space/time, and it was just projected onto something like in 2D.
We made a U-turn immediately and started looking for a guy in a big black yhetti suit, but found nothing. The driver and other passenger swore we drove right through the thing. Like the driver was sure he had just hit somebody or narrowly missed them. To me it looked like we had a good couple feet clearance, but did narrowly miss it on the right hand side as we drove past.
Anyway we talked about it and apparently we all had the "magnet" sensation on our eyes, and we all felt a sense of deep anger come over us as if it was upset that it had been seen. It was some seriously
sorry for the long story but it was a very profound experience. we all think of The Demon once in awhile, but we try not to

I've had quite a few "SUPERNATURAL" experiences...
but I'm not saying there is no science or nature behind them...
- just as of right now they seem really freaky and impossible - unexplained
