Sweet, I'm also most likely going to play solo for a while till I join you lot.
I like going solo, commando style.

i just got greedy and went into the city too deep and jumped by zombies, had a bug trying to get bandages from my backpack (wouldn't let me for some reason) and bled to death

balls man, im guessing bugs are going to be the only holding this back from being truly awesome for a little while. But of course, no complaints, theyve made it pretty clear from the get go that this is veeery much an alpha test!

Sounds like youve got the hang of it though man? all ive done so far is figure out basic controls of moving, aiming, crouching etc. then met my first zombie, killed him, then opened his body and spent about 5 mins failing completely to understand even the basics of what i was looking at lol had nooooo idea what was in who, how to get anything to anywhere else...basically what the fuck was going on lol

looked like the one i killed had loads of stuff on him, food etc. but couldnt for the life of me work out if he did or how i get it. Any help mr habit?

Arma inventory is very shitty, youve got to click on the item you want to take and click the arrow so it moves into your pack, sometimes it seems like it doesnt work for me though. The realism is pretty much top notch in arma though, puts an other game of this type to shame in my opinion.

yea i know how to use it, just wouldn't work for some reason and cost me my life and loads of swag.
and yea the level of realism in arma games is awesome, once you get over the keyboard layout heh

Baron, theres a thread on the official forum that runs through all the interface basics.

Bought it through that Amazon link, probably be another 12 or so hours before its all downloaded tho. Even then I cant really play much until ive done my final exam next Friday. -q-

Hopefully theyll have done another update by then as I hear the number of zombies is pretty OTT at the minute.

so i just started a new character, go to an industrial area and found a fire burning inside....
oh crap this is someone's base camp, so i went outside and got in prone watching and waiting
sure enough within 5 minutes or so i see a guy come running up to the building with a sniper rifle on his back
PAYDIRT!!
i low crawled my way into the building and saw him enter a room, i took the long way around as i had scouted the building beforehand
i popped up into a crouched walk and started clearing the rooms one by one on the way to where i suspected him to be, finally the moment i had been waiting for...
i came up behind him unnoticed, and for a second my humanity kicked in thinking, hey mike this guy is just like you, trying to survive, but then i saw that sweet sniper rifle
i lined up the sights on my pistol to his head and squeezed the trigger twice.
he was bleeding alright, 1 more shot to his body and he was down
had he fainted? was he dead? i wasn't going to take any chances and aimed at his face and pulled the trigger!
quickly i looted his corpse and received my reward, a cz550, but what's this? he had no ammo!
i gathered the rest of my loot as by this time any players in the area would have heard the shots along with the zombies.
i got outside and sure enough the zombies had noticed, i was immediately swarmed!
sprinting away just delayed the inevitable, i ran back in the building and up the stairs
next thing i knew i had expended the last bullet in my last pistol clip and i was zombie chow...
such is life in day z

What are the shooting mechanics like on the game? Is it one shot kill? Will capping someones legs cripple them but not cause death?

pretty realistic, like if you have a sniper rifle you have to zero it for your target distance and lead your targets if they're far off
pretty much 1 shot one kill, or a couple depending on where you hit.
you can break bones, and when bitten/shot you start to bleed out, if you bleed out too much without bandaging yourself you faint

i miss my crossbow, slow to reload and a pain to carry bolts as there is no quiver, but it's silent kills and you can recover your bolts from the corpses
