...Don't know if anyone has already said it, but if you can get hold of a copy of Samiyams Rap Beats Vol 1 (or any of his stuff) thats a good start.
I actually bought mine from him direct, took about 2 months to actually get to me though.... L.A to Bristol. phew.
other than that... Dilla, Black Milk, Hubert Daviz (Beatnicks Tape - FREE), fLako, Harrison Blakoldman... theyre the best at it right now Id say.

tayreeb doesnt have a beatnicks tape, it's "beat heroes" or something, and it isnt very good imo.
the new beatnicks tape by powell is fucking amazing though

Ha, yes I get you there but hearing Beatnick reminded me of Tayreeb. Respect your opinion though, everythings not everybodies cup of tea.

Check out Glen Porter's two albums too.
I've got some stuff on my myspace from when Button Basher and I were doing shows together:

Check out: dday one - heavy migration
Its what DJ Shadow's last album should have sounded something like. I took a break from instrumental hip hop as I was getting bored but this album has sparked my interest back into it.
