Forensics have you ever been outside of zone 1 + 2. All those problems are prevalent in areas of Greater London.
Yes, can safely say I have :D Obviously there are nasty areas, and plenty of bad attitudes knocking around. My point is - people don't ever come up to me and bother me, and I don't see other people getting bothered either. Apart from for spare change of course  The only way I can judge the difference is through my experiences, and from the stories I hear. Appreciate I perhaps shouldnt make blanket statements on that basis, but there you go!

on the whole I agree London isn't too bad if you are streetwise and don't make yourself a target. Though I can only really speak for South London which i have travelled around a lot in my time- Hardly ever go North of Islington

@ Luke - I know some students who lived on OKR. One of them was approached at knifepoint, lead back to their flat and cleared out! Harshest mugging i've ever heard about mind.

air rifle/catapult from a stone can cause just as much damage at times really :?

they weren't direct mates (friends of friends) but yea they were okay. Just the idea- home is the one place where you subcosciously feel safe so to have it ruined like that, your keys taken, they know where you live etc. would be mentally very scarring- i think anyway.

in a word, not particularly. Random acts of violence are extremely rare in my experience. I've lived here 9 years in diff part from posh to 'dodgy' and never seen random violence with my own eyes.

Of course I know a few people who have been unlucky but it is by no means a violent place. It's just a city.
Word.

Bristol is nothing compared with Birmingham (where I'm from) for violence and even less so like some parts of London. I've lived here about 4 years and have had links here for about 10, there are a few places I'd think twice about walking through at 4am on y own because I'm not fucking stupid.

Bristol is the most vibin place in the UK bar parts of London imo, so much music and culture you would be a fool to think otherwise.

yep, basically you owe me about twenty pints for all the sage advice I've proffered - upon your arrival in Bristol, I will redeem all these and, having had a skin-full of Westons Vintage cider, will proceed to lamp you with a pool ball in a sock. :4:
