bare different. i dont know if it was me but it seemed that there was no love in the air@love-just bare people in a room. odd because all the djs played solid sets. i mean jua asked if everyone was ok and anyone whos been on this forum knows the answer-standard. folks were just looking at the man like "you what??" hold tight secret agent gashman, chu, ragazza, and the dubwar family. delphine, was nice to meet you. uhm, gigi i see some kreyol in your details. haitienne?
Oui, Blk Plague, mwen Haitien. But I was born in CT and reside in Bklyn. Anyhow, I won't say the place was bare on Friday but the vibe got a little weird towards the end of Dawn and Blackdown's set. People just need to get patient when there are sound problems. Sheesh!

Unfortunately left whilst Loe was causing internal injury, Blackdown + Dusk good to see you lads play, bringing a next style. Dub War crew... SMACK THAT SHELF/BANG THE LEDGE!

Big up all the regulars and all the, safe, new faces.

left during the bomb squad set to have a spliff outside and wound up freezing in a jail cell with my friend. they took our shoe laces and belts, fingerprinted us, then let us simmer for a few hours. we ran back to the club just as loefah ended. (shit).

we did get to see the first annual loe-joe slow jam face off, which was hilarious. i can go to my grave knowing what phil collins sounds like on a ridiculous soundsystem.

there was a little voice repeating itself in my head while in jail...I AM NOT OK.
That was us last month, only we just got the standard frisking and they took our greenery. They took the man\'s money in his pocket, left the pipe and wrote a couple tickets. Shameful that they took you all the way to jail though. Fucking piggies.

My advice is to take a walk more than right around the corner. They are just trying to show us who owns that corner. Best to walk up the street a piece and do your blazing out in the limelight, where the cops aren\'t at. That, or from now on, go out there in groups of 10 or more and roll deep on them bitches.

Sorry we couldn\'t make it this time, gents. Sounds like it was kinda weak though--what up?

Bro how do you find these cats, on the regular, every 2 weeks in our little subterranean bass den? amazing.

i bailed midway through Loe's set (i was so not ok that i was ok, which was lame), but everything i'd heard before hand was quality. The early old-school jams were on point; i could have sworn i heard "i" but clearly i'm getting my classic wobblers mixed up. Was bare proof that we're surrounded by a ton of good music.

Shocklee brothers brought a set that was clearly the beginning of something big. It was raw and felt like it was finding itself for the 1st 10 minutes, and then proceeded to get really really cool. Can't wait to see where they take this.

Blackdown & Dusk-- for those in the from-your-father's-era hindi tune massive, there were some really amazing, pristine moments. Oh and a whole gigantic slice of grime. Really great.

There were sound problems at points. no biggie. We get' em at sub swara as well; push that rig hard for 8 hours and you eventually need to let something, from your needles on through everything to the subs in each corner, to rest for a bit. Heads were down with it. The ones that won't.... they'll hopefully learn to be.

2 years ago this started growing into something bigger than south London. Even in NYC it's clearly grown beyond the same 15 dudes (and recently, gals) that i see at each party. This is a good thing. We just need to continute to present it as it is-- simple, bass-heavy, community-building, the stuff that makes you want to damage your body for 8 hours straight because almost nothing else in the world comes close to it.

Out to DQ, Jua, Joe for bringin' that every time!

I know the Loe v Joe SlowJam soundclash will be posted.

I'm not worried that it's a sign of things to come but I have to agree. When I got there around 1:30 am, it was a different vibe than the past few months. Only later did the vibe return to what I've been used to, even though the DJ sets were amazing to me. My guess is the NY Times article brought a lot of on-lookers and curiosity seekers, along with the general ebb and flow of a monthly event. I can't complain about that too much since I'm only been going for the past few months. Ultimately, I can't worry about others bringing negative attitudes to the space or overcrowding. But yeah - from what I've seen, it would be a bit sad to see something lost.

Sometimes it's a fine line between being protective of something special and feeling inclusive of others. Being and feeling. I'm working on my own answers to that.

Oh - and, hi.

Thanks everybody for your comments and all those who came out as always and brought the vibes. Dub War is approaching its 3rd year now, and to be completely honest about it, I share a lot of the uncertainty that many of you have expressed about the energy in the room on Friday. I think it goes without saying that all of the artists put their heart and soul into it and brought something different to the table. And it's always nice to see a packed room. But the fact is that there were a number of people present who frankly were behaving in a way that was not what we're about and I think dragged down the feeling of positivity and community which has always been one of the most important things about the night. The truth is that while every night seems to have its glitches, normally the spirit of positivity easily wins out. On this night, I think it won out eventually near the end of the night, but I don't feel good about what was going down in the meantime. True we had some sound issues at times and issues with the police, but normally people are very respectful and understanding if something like that happens. This time we had some pissed off guys booing in a mean-spirited way when we said everyone had to chill for a minute. Anyway I'm not trying to bring anyone down just acknowledge that even though it was still a big night, we share the concerns that you all have raised. I won't feel good about it if that continues to be the pattern. Also please don't hesitate to share your feedback privately by pm if you feel that you have more to say.

Thanks everybody!

ps. remember back when there was an issue with some heads getting worked up by the music to the point of moshing? and people spoke up who didn't appreciate getting smacked and having to move to another part of the dancefloor. well those who didn't approve of the moshing raised the issue in a respectful way i thought without attacking anybody, and now you never hear about this being a problem. that was great. i sorta hoping that the disapproving yet respectful protests of the regulars can help squash this latest problem if it continues to get in the way of people's ability to have a good time.

i was not ok. at all.

bombsquad started out fresh. i was about to jump out of my skin with their selection. then i ended up actually leaving my body and for the next 4-5 hours, i was wrecked. those who know, know.

anyway. i pretty much didnt want to or couldnt move from the corner in that crazy fluorescent room for dusk+blackdowns set. sorry for that cause i really wanted to catch them.

loefah. i am speechless. anyone who missed this set, or left early is mad. this dude is ridiculous. he gets the award for the most serious dj ever. might be exagerating, but im always blown away when i see this dude at work. had me going out of my mind. sorry for those i bumped into. i had a sudden burst of energy and life hearing this mans set, so i had to allow it.

and finally...jua and joe and dq. you boys always hold it down. each and every. joe wrecked it. much respect. :)

vibe was a little weird though ill admit. a bunch of SHADY people. def weirded me out a bit.

but overall....i had an amazing night/weekend. our stay in the city was AMAZING. it would take me all week to explain what we did.

anyway. till next month, i will continue to take my vitamins and keep stamina up up up up.....as for next month, BRING IT.

and ps. i dont know how you get caught smokin. theres a smoking area outside...light up there  just be careful. eyes in the back of your head style to be extra careful.

oh yeah....big up seckle...bacteria talk. hahaha. way to make an impression. and as well, big up chu mister plague and drunken sag. love you guys. :P
big up the donut crew!

Want to give a shout out to the sercurity and folks who were working at Love for helping me and my girl get in and out of the club. She is severely disabled at the moment, and can't really do stairs without my help. You guys were patient and helpful and I respect that. peace.

The staff at Love are always very nice. The regulars are always very nice. The DJ\'s are USUALLY on point ;)

Don\'t let a few idiots bring the vibes down. From what I understand, there are more reports of these things happening at DMZ nights in the UK as well. The best way to deal with those people is to have them removed immediately by the staff. Those guys always have your back and I\'ve seen people smoking weed on the floor and get nothing more than a wrist slap and told not to do it anymore. They show a good amount of restraint, and they end situations real quick when they need to.

Perk, sometimes you just don\'t want 10-50 heads on your blunt, ya dig?

Hopefully we\'ll be reaching next month.
