As soon as I got it I was dumb founded and had no clue what to do but after getting use to the interface I am in love and don't plan on using anything else. Also I've always wanted logic and have been in a rut with money so I just got a logic theme to satisfy my needs until I can afford a mac. :D

well i've decided to actually buy reaper because i've been using it so much lately. i usually use renoise but i like to use a more traditional daw for mixing and for creating tunes from time to time. part of the reason why i started using reaper so much is simply because of how fast it is. compared to cubase 4 le which i was using before reaper is like lightning.

but i still have some questions (for example it was only today that i figured out, by reading the manual, how to mute channels going to a bus).

my biggest question is how the hell do i get sidechaining to work.

i've followed the guide on youtube. i've done it again and again. but nothing is working.

i'm going to give it another go now actually if i don't fall asleep.

hi,
for sidechaining in reaper:
- setup track 1 with lets say a kickdrumsample;
- setup track 2 with a bass sample;
- on track 2 hit I/O and change the number of track channels to 4 and add a new recieve from track 1. set the recieved audio to audio ch1&2 ==>ch 3&4;
- hit FX and insert a reacomp in track 2;
- in that reacomp go to the detector input and set it to auxiallary input l+r;
- hit play and set the ratio to a value around 10:1 to begin with and adjust the treshold until you notice a gainreduction, play around with attack and release as well until you got, what you want.

hope that helps,

micha

FUCK YEAH CAPSLOCK !!!ONEONEELEVEN

yesno... of course you can change the pitch of any wavfile, weather automated by the reapitch plugin as an insert or itembased by hitting F2 after selecting. BUT - since reaper doesnt know the exact pitch of the given samples, theres no pianoroll pitchchange until you put the sample into a sampler, triggered by midi.

quality of pitchchanging/timestretching depends on the sourcesound and used algorithm! so try out mre than just the project default and tweak parameter to get different results...

Ok thanks for the help and visuals! I guess the answer to the piano roll thing would be to maybe use a sampler vst and load it up in there?

:o Not me...

a) Are your tracks peaking when they render?
b)Maybe your lame_enc.dll is damaged or something, download a new one (I'd recommend the link from audacity ;) ), and put it here: C:/Program Files/Reaper
c) Your codec is damaged, do you get crackles and pops when you play an MP3?

Maybe you installed it to the wrong directory?

Also, rescan your VST folder by opening up the plugin selection browser, clicking 'Add' and pressing F5.

Which directory path to install VST plugins?

You can install VST plugins anywhere on your computer.

Traditionally, as Steinberg created the VST API, the default installation directory for VST plugins was C:/Program Files/Steinberg/VSTplugins. This was because most VST developers assumed that users would be using Steinberg software.

Reapers plugins are installed by default in C:/Program Files/Reaper/Plugins/Plugins.

If you install your VST to the Reaper directory specified above, the next time you start up Reaper they will be recognised and available for use. Alternatively, rescan your VST folder by opening up the plugin selection browser, clicking 'Add' and pressing F5.

---------------------------------

Installing VST Plugins

There are two ways of installing VST plugins. The first is to use the .exe installer and to follow the directions given during the installation process. The other is to drag and drop the .dll file for your VST plugin directly into your VST directory (see the two default paths listed above).

You can specify which directories Reaper scans VST plugins from by going to Options > Preferences > VST. Bear in mind that Reaper can scan multiple directories at once, so in the future, you may find that you thought you placed the .dll files into one folder when in actual fact they are in another. My advice is to only use one directory, something like C:/Program Files/VST Plugins.

If you still have trouble installing your VSTs, I suggest searching on Google for some tutorials or reading the manual for the programs you will use that can host VSTs. Reapers manual can be found at http://www.reaper.fm/userguide.php

Hope that helps.

Pat

Shift and 0 = shifts sample one semitone up
Shift and 9 = shifts sample one semitone down
Shift and 8 = shifts sample one cent up
Shift and 7 = shifts sample one cent down

Hope that helkps, i use this so much, very easy and quick to tune any sample to your track.

I think you need to ask on the Renoise forums tbh. The method described above would normally give you Renoise as a Rewire option.

Perhaps try reinstalling both Renoise and Reaper. I once had some problems with a broken rewire .dll and reinstalling Reason and Reaper did the trick.
