I think Section 80 is really really inconsitent. It's got some really good tracks but then a load that I don't feel at all. GKMC was way better for me. Felt like a complete album that flows very well. I mean It's pretty much a concept album and it's very well arranged and produced. It's rare to get an album in hip hop these days that feels like an actual album rather than a load of tunes put together with a bunch of different producers' beats and loads of guests that are currently big that don't add much other than make it easier to sell

The only thing Section 80 has over it is A.D.H.D

I couldn't disagree with you more here. Section.80 had a few songs that Hip Hop had been waiting YEARS for - HiiiPower, ADHD, Fuck Yo' Ethnicity, Kush & Corinthians - and the whole album had a pretty consistent feel... old school west-coast sensibilities seen through the eyes of a new generation with JUST ENOUGH new-school production.

GKMC is brilliant from a production point of view, but the songs are lacking - the only real standout track from a content-perspective for me is Dying Of Thirst, the rest have all been done a hundred times by a hundred rappers... I listened to it loads for about 6 months and then went back to Section.80 and felt genuinely refreshed.

I'm not sure either are as good as Q's Habits & Contradictions, mind...

Agree with all this, but still really rate Section 80.

ADHD and Poe Mans Dream are the two tunes that can stand up to GKMC imo.

Nah, stuff like Swimming Pools, Good Kid and The Art Of Peer Pressure are good from a content-perspective as well I reckon. Plus Backseat Freestyle is the best tune in that vain since A Milli (which you might think is shit for all I know), in fact, it's probably better. Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe is probably the best summer cruising tune for years too. 8)

I've only seen it in stock in the US. Case isn't an issue, apparently it just came in a clear plastic sleeve with an insert, so you could always just print off another cover.
Ha nah man cd is a dead format :6: you welcome to it! The bootleg is on hmvde or something but its pricey to post just one record, so then I get stupid and start adding more "to make it worth it"

It's fine with all these positive notions about Kendrick because he does have a certain quality to a lot of his stuff and he's technically impressive. But he's a style chaser like Jay-z and it's basicly populistic. It's been safe choices for a few years for him now. Where's the new rigamortis or the new looking for detox, where he actually pushes the envelope a bit and doesn't go for the crossover appeal, I'm not seeing it. Rap has almost come to a place where the major release is the end.

Captain Murphys album is great, shame it only came out physically on a stupidly small run of records.

I'm not the biggest Kendrick fan, and I agree he gets overrated quite a bit, but I think you need to hear these:

Some of Section 80 is honestly a little cheesy.

There are bits where the lyrics are just terrible:

"I wrote this record while 30 thousand feet in the air
Stewardess complimenting me on my nappy hair
If I can fuck her in front of all of these passengers
They’ll probably think I’m a terrorist"

I mean what the fuck? That's just so corny.

And yeah it just doesn't have anywhere near as good production. It feels like a load of songs thrown together and they don't feel fleshed out beyond a really generic structure of verses and a hook then just ending.

Also everything Gareth said at the end there is true as well and they all lock into place within the composition of the album. Section 80 just doesn't have the very deliberate feeling inclusion of a load of styles like that it just feels like he made a load of tunes and put them up for download. It's not an album. It doesn't feel like this well framed sonically fluid piece with a traceable idea and approach to song writing. It's just like some songs that I'll listen to that are good vs and album that I'll end up listening to the whole of if I just play one track.

Put section 80 back on, it does have so really really good tunes on it though. Think I may have played it more than GKMC at this point.
