I think the Lynch version certainly has its moments (in atmosphere mostly as others have stated, and a great soundtrack), but overall the movie was pretty crappy, like a pretty cool B-movie. It has its place in sci-fi but this failed Jodorowsky attempt just looks like it was going to be the shit.
Strangely I read the Incal (graphic novel) many moons ago and found it unremarkable.

Jodorowsky's Dune would have been an amazing film but a really shit Dune film.
Re: Secret Ninja Movie Club (aka what have you watched latel
Yeah probably if 1:1 is the idea. I dont think it is with film though.
It's an interesting discussion, but I can't remember a good book turning into a good film.
And you can't really ruin a book by seeing the film first imo. Only the other way around, which is something people rarely say. Like GOT, was a bit silly to me but my mate kept on trying to get me to read the book and now I enjoy both.
But agreed dune as a book is something really special.
Oh and dont front on sting when hes trying to look like a raver.

I'm saying that because Jodorowsky has basically said that the film would have been nothing like the book in any way not because I don't think it could be as good. Like a bad adaptation in the sense it's inaccurate not bad. I have no doubt it would have been an awesome film.

That's usually it though, the book has to differ from the movie. A true book adaptation into a movie has, to my experience, never been very good.
When the movie does its own thing do, it can be awesome
Solyaris (lem) => Solyaris (tarkovsky)
A Roadside Picnic (Strugatsky) => Stalker (tarkovsky)
Clockwork Orange (Burgess) => Clockwork Orange (Kubrick)
Heart of Darkness (conrad) => Apocalypse now (Kubrick = ok but if a leap that one).
True adaptations have never worked for me. Examples; The Road, I am Legend (ok maybe not a true adaptation), Ender's Game etc.

Hey man, that's because clockwork orange was above it and I was at work..as you noticed there was a lot wrong in that post that's what happens when you peak at forums in a totalitarian work environment.
Seriously...

I can't find the recommendation now, but someone suggested The Believer (2001) last week and it's very good.

Star Trek Insurrection
Fountain of youth b2b eminent domain.
There are many episodes of the show that are better than this "movie". Just about every aspect is underwhelming. The thing that stood out the most to me was the amount of cheese in this film. One liners and "cute" androids a plenty.
2/10
On a side note, I'm sad to see the direction the franchise has taken. It would have been awesome to see some hard sci-fi set in the star trek universe.
