Re: Post your unpopular opinions.
I think it was you, gareth, who pointed out that the best tunes on Skull Disco aren't by Shackleton. I agree, but wouldn't call him overrated, although I'd be unaware of any ridiculous hype he might get in the uk. his tunes get me moving everytime, bare energy - yet they draw their momentum from composition and good songwriting instead of hard-hitting sounds and "in your face" sound design.
by the way:
hessle > tectonic / tempa* > hyperdub** > dmz > punch drunk / deep medi > keysound > box clever > apple pips*** > rest
Innamind & System too young to evaluate. Skull Disco is just different.
* last couple of years hit & miss, but worth it for the first 15-or-so releases alone. plus they still put out some functional tunes which I like to play out, but would never listen to at home (latest Kenzo plates are a good example).
** for the albums and the releases up to 2010. that funky stuff they put out is mostly forgettable imho.
*** started great, but lost steam after the first couple of releases. not into the stuff appleblim & komonazmuk are pushing nowadays.
I'm trying to think of some really good but now defunct labels... (lol sorry pete)

i cant really comment any further because i dislike a lot of thingsgarethom wrote:I'm not on about saying every now and then that you don't rate someone, I'm on about those people that seem to revel in not liking shit and then just come up with the most random/troll reasons. And for the record, I don't think Shackleton is shit. I think he's overrated. I quite like Three EPs and I've got that Tin Foil Sky on wax too.
Ain't even that that bothers me so much, cos if you don't like Loefah, you don't like Loefah, but it's the attitude of "I don't like Loefah" "Yeah, well, I like Loefah less than you do!"bennyfroobs wrote:rofl ^
... how can brers not like loefah beats on a place called dubstep forum what is life
i do like a lot of really good things as well tho so i think it evens out

I really like magneto vip, it's sick out and I bought it and all
but does anyone think it sounds bit like...commercial, I pretty rarely get this feeling with dubstep tunes

that's why they call him jurkhands
Re: Post your unpopular opinions.
Also RKM why do you think Magneto VIP is commercial? Cause of the vocal sample? Doesn't sound any more or less commercial to me than any other kenzo tune

I go back to goat stare just for the vocal alone, but yeah disco rekah and mud(lolvip) are good uns.southstar wrote:Loefah's tunes were a laugh at the time, when brutal sub was a novelty but i've never had an urge to go back and listen to any of them
Re: Post your unpopular opinions.
Imo Disco rekah is one of loefahs weakest tunes, like it sound alright for a bit but I just kinda get bored of it halfway through, still dig the intro for it though
