Absolutely - I agree with you in principle but I think applying it to how people dress and value popular culture misses the mark. I would say too however that it is worth pushing values that we believe is best for ourselves and others - feminism, the civil rights movement etc. actively seek/sought to change the status quo. Why shouldn't we make value judgements about society?

Principally we all need to have a certain degree of confidence in our ability to judge and weigh things up and part of that is staying humble and realising that we are all flawed and are prone to making mistakes. It is this thinking which leads to the idea that we shouldn't infringe on what others believe to be right for them despite our personal opinions which is what I think you're getting at. What my previous examples had in common was that they actively seek to prevent oppression.

"the betterment of mankind" is not in itself a bad thing it is of course how one goes about it

stamping out pop culture however vapid and enforcing intellectualism seems rather perverse!
