All this talk of the scene "progressing" to this is funny to me, seeing as this is pretty much what happened to drum and bass.
Re: What the fuk is going on with jumpup?
i play all sorts, love the whole spectrum that is dubstep, i play some midrange, wobble etc... i dont have a problem with some of it
However, i just want the representative posters for this aspect of the scene to acknowledge that it really needs more quality control. im not talking about doctor p, flux etc, im talking about all these 10 for a penny producers copying them, trying to out do each other in the filth stakes, and can only describe a track with the words 'dirty','banger','whomper' etc.
surely we can agree on that??
these 'brilliant' examples of wobble then end up on youtube, (usually with dubstep remix next to them) seen by thousands and taken as the representation of dubstep to the outsider
dubstep is healthy, its all growing together, and mid range is an arm of the umbrella so to speak, ... it just needs to sort out some of its shit.

Re: What the fuk is going on with jumpup?
Reading through this thread it irritates me that some posts seem to imply that this is the only way the scene has been moving so to speak. Dubstep isn’t limited in its progression and more than one sound has pushed through besides this wobble nonsense. The ‘purple’ (best way I could think of describing it) sound that Joker, Guido etc have been pushing is innovative, fresh and exciting, as is the heavily garage sounding works of SBTRKT and Fantastic Mr Fox. To think that wobble is the only sound coming forward is stupid and ignorant.
And yes I am well aware that this could all well be an April fools joke but I’m in a bad mood anyway

Re: What the fuk is going on with jumpup?
yep this shit be fukked up yo. spesh if it's an april fools lol
i have the pleasure (sic) of warming up 4 doctor p tommorrow night.
i'm hugely looking forward to playing a nice varied set of dubstep music ranging from 2005-2010.
i got some footcrabbin shit, skream, benga, rossi b n luca, untold, joker, gemmy, (ahem) rob sparx, fused forces, 16 bit ,rusko, starkey, martyn, kode 9, scuba, octapush, hackman,
dj madd, warlock, headhunter, rustie, joy orb, matt u, raffertie, coki, D1, hackman, zomby blah blah blah.
i'll play deep, rolling, tech-y, wobbly, 2 steppy, raagae/dubby, glitchy, bleepy and even a few grime, garage or techno numbers.
point is this music has an incredible level of diversity and history behind it's culture. What all the above producers also have is their own individual style, sound and set of influences.
This isn't apparent in the heavy, loud predictable oh so functional wobble shit.
People keep on bringing this shit up cos it's obvious that the outside perception of what constitutes dubstep is fast becoming just one style. This one style just doesn't have longevity or originality at it's natural core and above all it's loud, obnoxious and generally only listenable in a club enviroment, usually in the company of lotsa smelly, scruffy, drugged up young lads.......pls don't get me wrong on this....i've been that for many-a-year but it's another factor that lessens the appeal to newcomers or say adults???
the "if u don't like it don't listen to it" argument is soooo fukin lame cos the wobble style is so in your face and increasingly wot your likely to hear in a "dubstep" set and also people have every right to bang on about this cos for lotsa peeps this shit is their passion and they don't wanna see an ugly decline where the outside world thinks dubstep is wasteman kiddies rave noise. music moves and grabs people's souls in a way nothing else can. funtcase sucks balls .

"filthier than the mangled corpse of a wtc jumper" <-- this is the problem.
anyone that jumps on this sound is a joke, and any reasonable listener of music that has ever experienced anything besides EDM should abhor this sound. go play this to some indie rock kids or hiphop kids and see what they think. then play some mala.

Re: What the fuk is going on with jumpup?
Even if this is an april fools, i still completely agree with what rob has said. Don't get me wrong, i love jump-up in the dance, but only if its done right. 99% of the material that producers like doctor p / funtcase / cookie monsta / bogore produce is a complete load of tripe.
Theres just no depth to any of it.

Progressing doesn't necessarily mean it's getting better, just going somewhere. Might be progressing to the shithouse.yong wrote:All this talk of the scene "progressing" to this is funny to me, seeing as this is pretty much what happened to drum and bass.
