that's pretty much the whole point. the progression of art and music has ebbs and flows, minimal and maximal. dichotomies.
To the Suprematist, the visual phenomena of the objective world are, in themselves, meaningless

yeah, i'm not sure i fully get what you mean... It's a black square in a frame but because it's meant to be "art" all of a sudden it has some deeper meaning or what evs.

i wasn't claiming any deep meaning or anything behind that particular painting, if you don't like it or if it's meaningless to you that's fine, nothing wrong with that. sometimes artists even create things just so you'll have that exact reaction ("that's not art!")

my point is that if you look through history, popular art trends tend to go from maximal to minimal and back, either in style or interpretation.

a good example is the Romantic response to the Baroque ---> Classical movement in the 1600-1800s, everything went from as extravagant as possible to a more minimal and stylized theme (this is an oversimplification, but bear with me)

think about Grunge compared to Hair Metal... everything went from intricate solos and everyone out doing each other to power chords and flannel. think about the original minimal dubstep sound as opposed to the jungle/jump up DNB scene, etc etc

again, nothing wrong with disliking any of it, everyone has their own taste. art is subjective. implying that "i dont like this so i dont see why anyone should" is ludicrous, however.

I'm a huge fan of Kasimir Malevich - I will share my epiphanous moment...

One day I was contemplating one of his white on white squares - just staring at it mindlessly - sort of letting it absorb...

Image

...and then after about 10 minutes of staring and letting my mind wander....

I saw the ghostly image of my own hand reach out to straighten the square in the picture - and I was just floored...
I knew in that moment that the guy was a genius...

It wasn't about the painting - it was about activating the viewer...

It's an invitation to the people - to take part in the purest exercises of formalism
and in the communist sense empowering the classes..

Now with that being said consider these again...

Image

This is not stagnation - this is endless possibility...

The question is...

Should I have told you - Or should you have been left to figure by yourself?

...to have your own personal experience with the man through his work.

The Voyage of Life series, painted by Thomas Cole in 1842, is a series of paintings that represent an allegory of the four stages of human life: childhood, youth, manhood, and old age.
