If you can prepare yourself or overcome fight or flight without losing your cool in a brief moment then kudos to you. But from what I've seen from random fights is they don't mean shit.

If some guys in your face, you say something and he headbutt's you. You're stunned and in that moment he has enough time to get you to the floor before you can come back with a punch.

You think someone will forget years of training how to fight just because they got sucker punched?

That's why i have been using this thread to extol the virtues of BJJ and ground fighting

The physical limitations of the body overcome the limitations of the mind.

BJJ was created specifically for self defence

Have you ever used it successfully on anyone.

And I'm talking about someone that doesn't know any martial arts. Someone that only cares if you get hurt. Who, the majority of the time will be the person starting the fight.

lol there we go, I wouldn't put so much faith into it unless you've been in enough situations where you've needed to use it.

you gave an example of a hypotheical situation where someone headbutted you and took you to the ground, all i said was in that situation a knowledge of bjj and ground fighting is going to be very useful.

im not saying its full proof but knowledge of ground fighting is still very useful

Not if youve just been given 2 jabs while trying to talk your way out of it.

But you're the guy on the floor, your stunned, maybe concussed. What are you going to do, hold his legs and hope he falls other. Most chances are he's already on top off you with his knees on your shoulders punching you and there's someone else on the way to kick your teeth in.

variables man... i cant take someone to the ground if I'm unconscious, on the same hand you cant knock someone out if your flat on your back being choked out

you need a knowledge of both standing and groundwork but most people tend to overlook the groundwork and just go "yer im gunna spark him out, get me"

well it's obviously pride which is leading people to misrepresent themselves and say they 'talk their way out of it'.

Normally that's all it takes.

In a one on one, first blow is already the decider.

Exactly, your gonna be royally fucked in that situation, even if your sick at whatever wrestling/bjj or watevs.
Best learn to duck and weave, best learn to box! :mrt:
