Has the jacket been mentioned yet?
Re: Prometheus *massive spoilers*
+1, superb movie. The only movie that I've seen since that's affected me in the same way is Mr Nobody. Watched it twice over.DRTY wrote:the fountain is possibly my favourite film evaaar

My favourite scifi :
Alien (scott) (=> director's cut obviously)
Blade Runner (scott) (=> final cut)
Stalker (tarkovsky)
if we add animated movies:
Akira (Otomo)
what else has to be in the top 3?

Brazil
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.
Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
Yes to Brazil

So to the people that liked The Fountain, what did you like about it?

not that i didn't think it was good, but exceptional, absolutely not

*** Haven't read thread yet,
But I dig SCYFY, I love reading GD Ballard, and Philip K Dick.
and Ridley Scott is an exceptional director. Blade Runner is absolutely one of my favorite live action movies,
and the Alien series is sick as fuck.
I thought Prometheus was a very well paced, very well directed, fairly well casted, exceptionally well shot, and the special effects in 3D were off the chain.
IMO, the best 3D movie so far, if you saw it in 2D, go back while it's still in theaters and catch it 3D, it's worth the extra loot.
I really liked the brown eyed actress who was impregnated by an alien, that whole scene was ill, she was the best actor in the film.
I'd say Scott's up for the oscar, although, I've been avoiding the movies lately, and do not know what's ahead.
Overall I feel it was a crossbred version of Alien, The Matrix, and Congo (
)
and although it was an exceptional movie compared to how awful most movies are these days.
I still feel nothing will every really top The FInal Cut of Blade Runner.

It's not my favorite, but for a movie that takes from religious dogma and spiritual philanthropy, it was a movie to be enjoyed by a wide demographic of people, thrilling enough for a man, spiritual enough for a woman, and perfect for everyone between Jesus Freaks, and Cosmologists.nowaysj wrote: So to the people that liked The Fountain, what did you like about it?
I like older movies, TBH, but it was a pretty fun watch, DIG?

Liking Prometheus, Soiree has no valid opinion on sci-fi. Ignore
How can you say this was well written? Not even apologetic Prometheus fans claim that the script is of the highest order. And very well placed? I don't think you hold the Alien franchise in high regard when you call this well placed. And since when are Oscars a guarantee for good movies lol? And btw, you can only see it in 3D because it was shot in 3D. If this comes a cross as attacking, it's not. Just pointing out the way how I see it compared to you.
Also, Brazil = cool, but not even close to my top three. It's more of a comedy ( a cynical one I agree) than sci-fi.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
And why does it seem there's a divide between Europe and the U.S. on this movie?

I didn't see it in 3D.joeki wrote:And btw, you can only see it in 3D because it was shot in 3D.
Edit: Are we talking about Prometheus here?
Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
Seriously? Then that's a scam because that's what the cinema people told me. I wanted to see it normally but they said that version didn't exist.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
That would mean you couldn't watch it in smaller cinemas that don't offer 3D. Also, it would never be on "normal" tv
I watched it in 2D, because my boyfriend didn't wanna watch it in 3D. Would like to watch it in 3D again though.

Yep. I hate watching 3d films, I watched it in 2d. You've been had man!joeki wrote:Seriously? Then that's a scam because that's what the cinema people told me. I wanted to see it normally but they said that version didn't exist.

Congrats, you win DSFs Nerdiest. Your prize, 1,000 virgins from the Star Wars convention in the AFTERLIFE.joeki wrote:Liking Prometheus, Soiree has no valid opinion on sci-fi. Ignore![]()

But yea, I'm not huge into scyfy, I saw the movie though, and it was pretty good, for a new movie.
It could've been a little more confusing, I felt like if I watched it again, in 2D, I wouldn't have noticed anything new, and not been as impressed.
I like movies that take several views to understand, Lynch, Godard, Kubrick.
Thats my steeze, a good example of the sort of movie I like is that film PRIMER.
and Brazil is sick, too.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
Aha!
No I applogise, it seems you do know your sci-fi, and amongst summer blockbusters, sure: Prometheus is the stand-out.
But I also don't like Primer that much (though it received a lot of love in this thread). Are you into general mindfuckery? I'm not that much (though that still doesn't apply much to Prometheus as there is a difference between mindfuckery and blatant script faults). I'm not too keen on the religious parts. The questions it asks may be big, the answers it provides are not to my liking and demean the Aliens franchise.
But I feel like I'm repeating myself here. Yeah, I have not found a cinema in Belgium yet that is showing this in 2D. Fucking scammers charging me 3 quid extra.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
Just love it! It's so well done, and DEM VISUALS. all the space stuff was done using a microscope and blowing around coloured liquids on a little dishy. The soundtrack, the cast and acting, cinematography. It's just such a pleasing film to watchnoam wrote:yeh i was just about to inquire as to what was so astonishingly good about the Fountain??
