yeah its not happening at all right?

that's why there's a sticky at the top of the forums dedicated to hopefully toning down the redundant and exhausting amount of bullshit on the forum regarding brostep, skrillex, and related topics

But not all those topics are set up to slate those subjects. Id say it was 50/50 with n00bs posting how much they love said sound.

want to thank plastician, regarding his 'im out' thread

Post by 55stevieboy2010 » Tue Nov 29, 2011 9:26 pm

Been thinking this for a while now, and thinking how to write this....

Read with interest plasticians thread on the attitudes of some people on this forum, thinking, this is exactly how i feel about the so called 'fans' of the darker side of dubstep, (of which i am 1 myself, personally i cant stand the sound of the new heavy style but thats just personal opinion) Then i started laughing as i read all the brown nosing replys that followed. Most the original heads i hate to say are like fucking sheep.
You slate anyone who even so much as asks a question on here the attitude is disgraceful in the darker scene. And not just on here, whats worse is the attitude at gigs. I went to just skank at manc few weeks back with mala, krome, viv, silk, quest etc. Incredible lineup as im sure you'll all agree, did i enjoy it? Yes, but only the hour upstairs when cyrus and tunnage played an old skool set where there were no fucking utter wankers about cuz they were all downstairs watching goth trad, the rest was utter shit, never enjoyed a second. the attitude in the place was diabolical. Theres better atmosphere at a brostep night for fucks sake.
90% of my mates are house/techno heads and when i go to gigs with them the attitude is fucking lovely, noone is giving you looks, barging you, you can chat to someone without them turning round n saying 'who the fuck are you' This is one of the reasons i believe house will never die, the atmos in the clubs is brilliant, you'll always have a great night.
Its not just me who thinks the same, when i ask them why dont you go to dubstep nights, the answer is always the same...because of the attitude.

I never want the original sound to die, its my life but a small part of me wants it too so i can turn round to most of the stnuc in the scene and say, i told you so...

Now cue all the abuse towards me (because im not a name in the scene) and good luck with it bothering me in any way shape or form, you will struggle i can assure you

Just a quick note before i go, i must state it isnt everyone, ive met some great people since ive been around, the passion for the music is up there with any genre ive come across, and there are those few that like to share it with others so big up to those few like...

but yea, very sad indeed

What attitude? I was there and it was fine, sankeys is usually alright.. you get given your own space and everybody is fairly polite and apologetic if they bump into ya. I've also spoke to quite a few people in the smoking area and places and people are always sound. You're always going to get the occassional dickhead but thats like anywhere.

Maybe you just had a completely different experience to me but i really can't see how the attitude of the place can be described as diabolical. Oh and i was sober, when im sober at raves i havent got much toleration for dickheads... and i found it fine.

I think General Discussion has improved a bit lately, overall. There are actually some threads worth reading that pop up every now and then, can't remember the last time that happened. Sorry Plastician decided it was time for him to head off, but at least the discussion in this thread he spawned has been relatively civil. Pity he decided to take explanatory rebuttals to his leaving message as moaning though.

Actually, this attitude is the problem with DSF. Why should everyone support the same "original" dubstep? Can't people just support what they wanna support and create an environment where it's ok to listen to and support everything that you like?

I'm quite sure people's attitudes about brostep have only solidified other people's love for that sound, anyway. If you try to impose something on people, they'll only resist harder and they only associate the 'deep sound' with a bunch of elitist pricks. So why would they wanna be apart of that?

The problem isn't that the 'good ol' days' are gone, it's that people do everything in their power to stay in the good ol' days.

Pkay, coming with tact as ever. Nobody's lined anything with anything. There are many, many great threads out there. As Fractal said, it would be awesome if every thread was just filled with people interested and invested in the topic. Again, to say that everything devolves into a tit-for-tat argument is simply untrue. Look at the Dungeon Sound thread fairly recently for an example of what happens when somebody expresses an opinion that goes against that of the majority of the participants. Not a lot, and within a few posts, the thread is back to normal.

To me, it seems like it's become a bit of a cliche to bash DSF, yet so many of you are still here, contributing in threads, day in, day out, yet you can't see the good that there is.

I just think it's kind of comedic that specifically the General Discussion forum has become so reflex oriented with negativity that it becomes an instant reaction, even in this thread, where a pillar of our community is trying to shine a light on the fact that instead of alienating brosteppers from the dubstep scene, they're instead alienating people who founded dubstep.

Break it down to what it literally is. People feel threatened that brosteps meteoric rise to the top will cause their favorite artists to either A) Compromise their integrity or B) Become irrelevant an inable to provide them with fresh music. So people freak out and make, specifically this sub forum, a chaotic and hostile place for a certain group of folks.

Plasticians post should alert some folks, that as a consequence, you're alienating the forum from a stellar amount of djs and producers that as fans we appreciate having access to.

The same thing happened on DOA. back in 2001 or so we used to be able to have daily chats with Dylan, Pendelum folks, Concord Dawn folks, Evol Intent members, Bad Company members, Robyn, Hive, Dom, AK1200, Rob Playford, Dieselboy, the list goes on and on and on. We literally used to set up AIM chatrooms and be able to sit and chat with these folks. But we got so fucking negative towards clownsteppers, and what "real drum and bass' was that we made the entire forum toxic and instead of alienating "the idiots from dnb arena" we created our own little island where no one, including the people we admired, wanted to show their face at because it was so fucking negative.

SNH, where we debate and have conflict over issues on the daily, is still met with a certain level of respect that even at the end of the day if our opinions differ, we'd still rather hang out with SNH folk than not. That same vibe doesnt exist on this sub forum. It's a literal fuck you to those who are different. It's become campy, and divisive.
Simply put: new people leave this forum because some people occasionally act like dickheads?

I can't believe some peoples reasoning.

If anything, this thread has proven that there are sensible people on here that can argue in an adult manner, they simply just don't like brostep unlike Plastician (and many others) apparently. What music you like to produce is your own choice and of course your own right. But it's not the fans, who inevitably made this all happen, regardless who the founding fathers were, who are alienating from you. It's the other way around.
So go join your masses and feel good about it. It's your god given right and I wish everyone in music could happy and comfortable with what they are doing. But don't expect everyone to follow in your wake.
Some are doing this not for money, fame, succes...they're making music for themselves and if others happen to enjoy it too, that is fine. I don't see that happening in Brostep, not one bit.
