My city used to have some good artists come through...
Now all I hear about is raves, with (dare I say it) brostep, electro-house, and 15yo's in tu-tu's...

Kansas City. I think Bassnectar rolled through a while ago, but other than that I have yet to meet anybody

FSTZ and rogue dubs is out of KC.... Given how small a city KC is its not a bad scene. St Louis isn't too far away and is pretty decent as far as big artist rotation.
KC baby!

we have a ton of shows coming

Skream & Benga in march, Caspa in 2 weeks, and many more that we haven't announced yet!

Everytime I see this thread, I get Kim Wilde - Kids In America stuck in my head.

Edit: Searched for Kim Wilde - Kids In America dubstep and got this. LOL.

suggest you invite some aussie djs over
with our relatively bouyant economy, won't be asking big bucks to get thru the recession
lots into proppa dubstep & haven't sold out:
Boot or Sook (together, the Abyss, both producers)
Farj (of Moving Ninja...great selector from garage times)
Swindle (not the brit one), Zero Dub...both vinyl junkies
Zweli, Gielis...and lots more doing the UK bass & garage revival thing
or incorporating ds into raves like Third Eye, Victim...
...that's just the Sydney guys without enough local gigs to go round.

How do you mean exactly? You do realise there's many other styles and offshoots from the traditional dubstep other than the midrange stuff. Why does listening to them mean that the original dubstep listeners are getting left behind?
From what i've gathered a lot of people that liked the original don't like anything but the original, but I could be wrong. It feels like I'm going trough the motions I did when I first started listening to DnB.. The purists and elitists seem to look down upon anything but what they think is good. I'm not saying all the people that liked the original dubstep are elitists but It just seems a lot of people i meet are, I guess I have bad luck.
i prefer the older style of dubstep the same way i prefer older jungle/dnb. ive always preferred a deep subbass and atmosphere to "dirty" synths and electro inflence, that being said i do listen to and enjoy some "brostep" stuff like rusko and caspa, bassnectar, datsik, downlink and even some of skrillex's stuff (although without starting this tired argument i see his stuff as more hard electro with some influence from brostep)

im pretty sure there are others out there that can listen to both and not either be wildly uneducated about the music (brosteppers) or elitist snobs (the elitist dubstep snobs :P)

although saying that i do still wish people around here had more of a clue, it does bug me when i say i like dubstep and people say "oh for realz bro i lik skrillex too!" its insane that even though its only about 10 years old as a genre people don't even know where it came from and just assume that dubstep IS wobbly midrange and skrillex :/

The best bit about this post is that you quote me saying to MIDI-Chlorian that 'old dubstep' has many styles and offshoots other than mid-range stuff and yet in your post you give the distinct impression that brostep is the only thing being made now.

Yo, chi-town boy here who digs the deep riddims. Would like to say that I attended both Pearson Sound & Matty G/6Blocc this past weekend. Pearson Sound was awesome, playing a bunch of tracks from his essential mix, and then ended it with a Rustie tune that sounded pretty sick...

MattyG/6Blocc was a different story though...

Due to the snow storm, I imagined that a lot of people that would have come didn't. So the turnout was less than stellar. I got there around 9 and was pretty much the only guy there for about 45 minutes. The first hour was some guys playing some DnB on Wax which was ok considering I WAS the entire audience. Then I sit through some duo who who played obnoxious bro-tunes to an audience of about 15 people for about 2 hours. Finally Matty G & 6Blocc go on and decided to tag-team due to the low turnout (and probably to go home early.) This would have been fine by me, but except they only got two play for 10 damn minutes due to a fight breaking out between an audience member and a member of the Wolf Pack (Wolf Pack is some brostep collective who promote a few shows in Chicago, I'm sure Tornado knows about them). The entire show gets shutdown due to this. Needless to say I was pissed off (tipsy, but still pissed) for paying money to get only about 10 minutes worth of good tunes due to some idiots not being able to control their temper. Chatted a bit with Nameloc afterwards and MC Anti (Tornado probably knows these guys too), and Anti was furious because I guess one of the "Wolf Pack" got into his face for something.

I should have demanded a refund, but I was too drunk and pissed to care. Asked Matty G if he had any Dub Police shirts for sale but he didn't bring any.

I'm a little weary about that Skream + Benga show due to the fact the last time I saw them @ The Mid in October, they played practically nothing but mid-range racket (ending the night with a Skrillex tune which made me go "WTF?" and left disappointed.)

I'd practically kill to have Distance or Kromestar play at Smartbar.

id love to have Kromestar play here in NY. I wish i could get info on his upcoming shows but Kromestar has no web presence at all, despite being one of the biggest names in dubstep. he has like 2 myspace pages which he doesnt use anymore, and a facebook fan page. that's it (as far as i know).

@AesopTwin

I know all the folks you are talking about. Good people. Unfortunate to hear about the fight at the gig, I can't comment on it as I wasn't there. I had to drive my cat and dog to the vet in Cicero in that storm, and had to get up at 6 the next morning to go to Bloomington-Normal for work so said fuck it in the end. Disappointed as I was looking forward to catching up with Matty. I can't believe they only got to play for 10 minutes! If I were you, I'd have definitely asked for my money back. That's ridiculous.

Pearson Sound was sick though - I was going OFF when he started playing grime. I'm not too weary about the Skream/Benga/Plastician/Jackmaster/Hijack gig (heretoafter referred to as 'the Rinse gig' for brevity's sake) as there will be tons of diversity. For as much flack that he gets on DSF, Plastician does a great job of playing 360 degrees of the sound - even if the emphasis is on the harder riddims (though for him, it always has been).

Things are changing slowly but surely. Just got asked to open for Lunice on Thursday, March 1 at Smart Bar. It's all about supporting the artists we like. That Pearson show was well attended, and Signal looks like it's gonna be a successful night. Looking forward to what the gang has in store for it.

Haven't posted on here in quite sometime.

Glad to see people have noticed all the hard work we have done at Smartbar, keeping true to the tasteful stuff. Here and there tho, for numbers you have to bill someone that is totally uncalled for...thats why I don't like promoting.

I just wanted to bill quality music as much as possible.

I tried to get Distance and Kromestar to play a few times @ Smartbar, never really panned out. Shame, amazing producers who really don't get the attention they deserve.

I know that, that's why i said fan page. I wish he had his own. i mean what's so hard about having a facebook page, fuck even a twitter!? if Kanye can have one, not post something for weeks then do a rant spawning over 50 tweets, then Kromestar can do it too. :u:
