This isn't the same techno or house as x-years ago, at least, in many cases.

This is, people who are looking at it from another perspective, taking dubstep and other genre's they grew up with and going back and trying interpret it their way. Some do this more original and effective than others, who are just rehashing. Others don't have the talent but such is the way of the music industry nowadays. Mass production.

any way, who is still doing interesting dubstep? It's not just the music, it's the atmosphere, it's the people, it are the venues, the classic tunes. All that is going away, moving on... I'm hearing the same kicks, the same patterns popping up everywhere. There's the idiocy of bro-step, the nu-metal of the new era (agreed, much like some nu-metal, I do believe one can find a good bro-step tune, but I never considered nu-metal technically difficult or challenging, say quality underground music, that wasn't the point of it).
Then there's dungeon, a sort of stubborn anti-movement. It too has its place, but to revel in it 24/7 is like watching the movie Cast Away. It leaves a very bitter taste.

Then there's some of the originators still doing relevant things: I'm thinking Mala (new album sounds great), Cyrus, Pinch... and a few of the 'new' (I know that's relative) guns who have coped very well, mainly from Bristol: Kahn, Guido,...

And that's about it for me. Half of the early scene isn't relevant any more: Dub Police (what a joke), HENCH, even tempa has been slacking.
And others have moved on to greener pastures: Kode9, Loefah, Burial, Tes La Rok, Ramadanman...

I don't see it, I don't see how this scene is still alive as much as 5 or even 3 years ago. Then again, I've been in it for about 6 years and I've never been much of a stagnant person. I need new things, challenges. From the age of 18 when I left metal, hardcore & punk behind I said to myself, I never want to belong to just one 'scene' any more. It is waste. Perhaps that comes into play as well. I love how Wut and other tunes before and after gave new life to something that wasn't going many places any more, even if that, much like brostep, changed the atmosphere, environment and live experience of the original dubstep.

quality input from Helix :Q:

and yeah,as Joeki said the Bristol scene/sound is a great example of the continuity of dubstep , especially the Pev/Livity Sound stuff. Sure, it might not be 140 and some of it could probably be termed techno but you can definitely hear the influence in the aesthetics; it's more a question of evolution than reinvention...

and really stuff like Joy O and Boddika being linked to dubstep is really just an accident of time and place, so people talking about how it ruined the scene is just incorrect.

lol why would I explore something that is of no interest to me? Maybe it sounds ignorant, but that's how I feel. Sure, I stumble across the ocassional tune or mix or whatever I like, but it's not really something I feel the need to get into deeper. It's not my thing. Probably that's why I'm not into what's happening right now.
What I liked about dubstep was that it sounded like nothing else. Of course you could hear some jungle, techno, house etc influences, but it was just that: influences. It was something completely different. That's why I don't understand why would artists change that for something that's been around for ages.
And tastemakers and artits are acting like dubstep is shit and are trying to distance themselves as far as possible. I'm not saying that's the reason why they're making house or whatever, it's just how they're acting like.

Also, lately I've been getting the feeling that it's somehow wrong to not be into house for whatever reason. Tbh the house nights I've been to were some of the most boring experiences for me. Had more fun at brostep and Hospital nights

Personally, the trend I find most interestin in dubstep/bass music right now is the melodic, atmospheric stuff - it holds the most gold for me. Producers like Clubroot, Ghostek, Swarms, sometimes Burial, Nanobyte, Kulture, etc - the atmosphere and the melody really capture me

Beats the fuck outta me really. Nothing too big though. Last one I've been to I know it was Wbeeza and few others that played (go figure) Hypercolour type shit. Left during Wbeeza's set. Couldn't take it.
My main issue is not the nights, I just end up getting dragged to those. It's just that the music doesn't appeal to me. And it's not like I only listened a Maya Jane Coles tune 2 months ago and decided that I'm gonna generally dismiss house.

house is a huge umbrella genre

there's a lot to love

and a lot that's boring

the 90's were all about house for me, so it's nice to see it getting big again with the bass kids
