Re: How can I make that bass stab common in garage music?
Re: Rekoil/Datsik Metal effect
Jesus guys. Some of you over think basses so bad. I know from experience with working with the guy om mulitple tunes that he uses just teeny delay no resampling. Pure massive. He uses the delay in massive and no external plugins. Me and him make similar basses and use many of the same techniques so trust me when I say youcan get that sound easily in just massive without resampling ir granular or chopping
Re: Rekoil/Datsik Metal effect
Your new release with rekoil is massive man. Big ups on that oneMannyyyyy wrote:Jesus guys. Some of you over think basses so bad. I think many of the bass sounds in that song used this same technique, no?

Thank you man! Big ups and one of the basses did. The main 3/8 womps had that effect turn on and off to give variety. But we used a lot of basic techniques and a lot of bandreject

I'm confused by your comment, as I'm pretty sure we've never met before.nowaysj wrote:Was thinking about you the other day. Good to see you.erosx wrote:Here are

I will say that sometimes just a very minimal comb movement in massive can give you what you are looking for. Trust me when I say massive can make anything without resampling. Once you get full grips of it. Its cake!!
Re: Rekoil/Datsik Metal effect
Bro I'm gonna have to drive up to Kissimmee for some lessons in bass LOL. Tutorials on youtube can't even touch the stuff you got goin on. Maybe I'll see you around at an orlando show and we can talk massive for a bitMannyyyyy wrote:teakthek wrote:Your new release with rekoil is massive man. Madeon Synth... how to...
Didn't really want to post this because it really isn't a crazy sound, I hear it in alot of retro tracks from the 80s. I am just loving whatever it is and I've tried the whole day and can't nail it. It's in the song Icarus, and appears at 1:37. I don't even know what you'd call that type of synth but any help would be awesome. I guess you'd call it kind of a bell?
Can anyone help out?

I really would like to know how to make a synth that sounds reversed. I already tried a pad with a envelop but I doesn't come close. Thanks.

Try a big chord made out of saw waves, with some vibratojbcrazy wrote:Didn't really want to post this because it really isn't a crazy sound, I hear it in alot of retro tracks from the 80s. its exactly that, but maybe with some resonance on it too, more with the classic grime hitfinji wrote:Hey, I really want to know how to make that 'grime kick' That I often hear, I think it might just be a heavily distorted/square'd 808, but I want some help..

Seven Lion-eque Super Saw Lead
Try this:
Set up three oscillators. Make em square waves (doesn't have to be perfect squares). Mess around with the intensity/wt-position. Pitch them down however you like it. Lay down a chord.
Then, go to the Voicing and change the 'Unisono' area to 10 (default is 1). This will fatten the sound a bit. Next, turn on the 'Pitch Cutoff' (it's beside the Unisono thing). Move the slider a TINY bit to the right. This is an easy way to detune the leads. Try to get a nice, even, rich sound.
Then under that, there is 'Pan Positioning'. Turn it on and move the slider somewhere far to the right. This will give some stereo to your sound thus making it sound 'whole'.
Now, go to the 'Modulation Osc' and turn on the Phase Modulation for oscillator 1/2/3. Mess around with it. See which one sounds best. You should be able to find a gritty sound.
If it still lacks some raw high-end sound/movement, drop in some white noise.
I don't mess around with any of the filters. I usually find it reduces the grittiness of the lead. I do however add effects. Try Tele/Classic Tube + Dimension Expander. Or you can try reverb. I usually leave the reverb to my DAW.
Just a note, this usually doesn't have that rich bass, so I combine it with a PWM bass synth.
Hope this helps.

Here's what I came up with in about 5-7 minutes while sitting on a couch at my university:
http://www61.zippyshare.com/v/84909105/file.html
It's basically just detuned square leads staggered with some vibrato on it. I can't nail it completely though. Maybe I'll do a better job later.

Re: How To Make This Sound - October 2012
It's not reversed. It is just a detuned saw lead side-chained so it gives it that 'reversed' sound. Focus on recreating the detuned saw synth, and then drop a 1/2 beat side-chain.Njamimars wrote:

Re: How To Make This Sound - October 2012
@Njamimars: Exactly what Nrjetik said or precise volume automation. Either way, it's a supersaw with a modulated attack.
Re: How To Make This Sound - October 2012
The machinegun bass sound that starts at 1:49 or something similar to that.
Re: How To Make This Sound - October 2012
Some basic waves, maybe saw with no attack on the amp envelope, and short decay. Possibly a LFO if you want that instead.
then distort to fuck, guitar rig can be nice for this. Eq out the stuff below about 80 hz and lower a bit below 200 hertz. Layer with a nice sine wave sub that has the same envelope/lfo
