Boxcutter-Brood i bought on vinyl and then later realised it catagorised itself under a genre id never heard of called`dubstep`...
and then Mary Ann filled me in a little more on the Breezeblock.

Mark One's One Way CD on Planet Mu was my first real exposure to dubstep. That album just had this atmosphere to it that kept me coming back for listen after listen. So many killer cuts: "Stand Up", "Warriors", "Anger Management", "Bang Bang Boy"... fuck, the whole thing is golden!
Vex'd "Lion V.I.P." sealed the deal though.
OUT IN THE STREET,
THEY CALL IT MURDA

SLT Mob vz S&D - Zombie EP
S&D - Food chain
Loefah - Life Dub
All massive, and all thanks to J Da on 1X.
He properly championed Foodchain.

Probably Tempa 002. I was looking for something different at the record shop and picked this up. Didn't know it was dubstep till a few years later.
I think Toasty - Knowledge is the tune that got me wanting to buy up more dubstep tunes more recently although I still haven't gotten my mits on this 12" :-/

Yeah, or Breakstep, or Breakbeat Garage (at least for the S&D, Darqwan etc. tunes).

The first time I went to Forward Zed Bias was playing. What happened to him? I thought "this if interesting. Kind of different.
Many months later it was Hatcha. Not sure if you'd call it Dubstep. More like a more sub ridden instrumental end of 2step, but it was deffinitly a fresh sound. He was angry!
What made me say "Right! From now on I will NEVER mis a Forward!", was a year later hearing Youngsta play Jungle Infiltrator and Indian?? by Loefa. The whole set was sooooo new. All helped by the sick sound of Plastic People.
Then the first DMZ! From the moment I went in and heard Kode 9 playing in complete darknes... the power of the bass on that soundsystem... DMZ had the power, energy and innovation that reminded me of the first house nights in '87 had. (yeh, I'm that old

Tempa 007 - Kode 9 + Benny Ill - Tales from the Bass side / Fat Larry's Skank
Was feelin some the 'dark garage' of the time but this is the first time the term 'dubstep' made sense.
