i think people who post any links in any thread are pretty desperate too!michael red wrote:post of new dubs should stay in the dubs section. that's what it was made for. pretty simple i think.
people posting links to their dubs in the general section run the risk of looking tacky or desperate or worse.
altho the whole "game" of the dub section here is another story.

Mala earned that reputation slowly but surely by putting out consistently amazing releases over a period of time with little or no promotion on his behalf. Letting the music speak for itself. The same goes for Hessle Audio, Punch Drunk, Tectonic and too many others to mention.Surface_Tension wrote:That we should just put something out, tell nobody about it, and it will magically fucking sell.
Douche. It might sell just as well if every fucking DJ on Rinse was playing it out of no other motive than they are my fucking boys, and I'm Mala handing them dubs. Alas, we're not of the status yet where we can slap out name on it and people automatically know what that means.
^ exactly!spender wrote:Mala earned that reputation slowly but surely by putting out consistently amazing releases over a period of time with little or no promotion on his behalf. 15 page threads are generated on this forum purely speculating on the next DMZ release. The complete lack of info gets hype up to silly levels but it works. The 12s drop out of nowhere and people buy on sight.
These things take time. You're not gonna get a rep after one release, not matter how good it is. But put out 3 maybe 4 consistently good releases in a year and people will start taking note. For all the right reasons.
Trying to generate hype / awareness by relentlessly bumping threads or spamming the forum is likely to give you about as much credibility as a door-to-door dubstep salesman.
Anyways, your heart's obviously in the right place and there's no questioning your passion for pushing the music you want people to hear so best of luck to you man.
But if you will insist on constantly venting your spleen on here about the 'Croydon Boys Club' then I'd recommend you use an account other than your Label's name. You're not doing yourself any favors.

Yer but the problem with the dub section is that there is a load of people that just post up tunes spam them like hell and dont even consider giving feedback to anyone else.michael red wrote:post of new dubs should stay in the dubs section. that's what it was made for. pretty simple i think.

Very nicely put. This is it in a nutshell.spender wrote: Trying to generate hype / awareness by relentlessly bumping threads or spamming the forum is likely to give you about as much credibility as a door-to-door dubstep salesman.
I think there is a limit as I've had flyers (not huge ones I might add) taken from my sig, some people do seem immune to this mod's decision though and when its just a huge pic not even a flyer I'm never sure why....danoldboy wrote:I think half page signatures are far more annoying than a bit of self promotion. Should be a size limit tbh
The dubs section is quite diheartening, I put a tune up, the only "feedback" I got was someone posting links to an online wedding dress store (?) That's not even targetted spamming, their literally boosting the amount of links they have over the net.michael red wrote:post of new dubs should stay in the dubs section. that's what it was made for. pretty simple i think.
