quite the contrary in fact :) ive been to a whole bunch of scion parties, and had fun even.

alot of people that i consider friends earn money from them & red bull and the like.

im able to separate the people & music from the corporations.

i also believe that all the people i know getting $ from the corporations are very talented and would be getting paid even if the corporations werent in the picture...

i dont have any beef with the artists OR the people who go... im all about having a awesome time... i just havent changed my opinions of corporatism because toyota shells out a few bucks and sponsors some tours.

and its like, welcome to dubstep scion... ask around, human is pretty much the loudest motherfucker in the room at any given time lol, ima speak my piece, but always show love where its due.

Set Records wrote:Jaybird, smoking weed is illegal in America and in most other countries as well. Even the more liberal ones for the most part. I promise you that most parties in America you'd get thrown out for smoking, let alone smoking weed.

Also at Human? do you really need to be reminded not to drink and drive? It says not to drink and drive on every fucking bottle at the club innit. That goes with what was said above about consuming cars because you saw a sign on the wall. It's about personal responsibility. I take it I won't find Jaybird at a Scion show then?

No, he'll be there, because he's a fucking hypocrite. You want to talk shit on the free show, but you'll still go to the free show. You invalidate yourself when you talk in a circular manner.
Weed is legal here... there are weed friendly venues..

look.. I'll NEVER be at another scion show ever again.. not after seeing that one.. nope.. not ever..

I was not even planning on going till 2000F told me to see joker, coz he was bomb.. and he was bomb.. totally bomb.. excellent set.. was awesome, except for all the bullshit going on around me...

I would have much rather seen him play in a warehouse, downtown, on a HUGE system, at a raging party.. but whatever...

why dun you sign that check they gave you, cash it, and move onto the next trendy music you want to act like your apart of, but don't care about...

Jaybird has already admitted he was there. That is what I take issue with is the hypocrisy of his position. Don't support it if you don't like it is all I'm saying. Don't go. I imagine Human would probably skip the party. Jaybird isn't so full of zeal and principle when it comes to a free chance to see Zomby and Joker. He took that opportunity and ran with it, had a good time and then complained when others complained because it's cool to hate on corporations. Whatever. Anybody who doesn't make their own clothes out of fabric they have grown themselves, eat food they are growing themselves(vegan only) and listening to music they made themselves on instruments they built themselves, can't say they themselves aren't a corporate shill.

actually,

Jaybird just moved out to LA a few months ago, and he had yet to be at a scion party out here. he went to this one because *I* wanted to go. I'm the one who rsvp'd. i was thinking the same thing as everyone else - hey cool its a free show why not right ? if a corporation wants to hook us up whats the problem? Everyone has only had complaints about the previous scion shows but its free so who cares.. right. once i got there and saw how fecked that party was i lost my flavor for it. the whole point is that joker would have been really kick ass to hear, bc truth be told - his set was bangin', but since scion threw that show at a corporate venue associated with a super power, and went about promoting the show to thousands upon thousands of randoms via corporate mailing lists, the party had a fucked up crowd, a fucked up vibe, and a lot of regular heads had a bad time there. The problem is that the way they're throwing their parties out here makes it hard to enjoy the killer dj we all go there to hear. Sure, it was free, but I would much rather support small business and pay 10-20 buks to go hear that same good dj at a GOOD show thrown by GOOD promoters who actually give a shit and aren't just using it as a marketing ploy. we all wanted to go hear that DJ whether it were for free or otherwise, but bc of how scions throwing their parties, at least here in LA, it makes them all... out of whack.

And besides, wouldn't it be retarded if people had a problem with something they hadn't even experienced for themselves? so please, chill the fuck out on the personal attacks already. all of you.

Set Records wrote: You have to RSVP for those parties. You understand what that means right? You have to actually email them to ask them to get in. That means you had to take action other than simply being bored and in the neighborhood to get in to the show. You had to actually say "I want to be at this shit" For anyone to do that and then complain about how Scion is throwing the party is stupid. Not once, when sending the email, but twice once receiving the email and then deciding to actually go, then when actually going... 3 times you have abandoned those principles. Then to stick around the show long enough to know the MC doesn't want the party to get shut down.
this is just untrue.. they tell you to rsvp so they get your email address.. THATS THE MAIN THING THEY WANT... but you don't have to rsvp to get in.. I saw plenty of walk ups.. it even says on the site, rsvp does not guarantee entry... THAT MEANS IF YOU RSVP AND THEY LET TOO MANY PEOPLE NOT ON THE LIST IN, THEY CAN REFUSE YOU..

after joker, I walked out.. put money in the meter, and checked out the hustler store for a quick second.. (coz I never seen it before).. then met up with my friends out front, smoked a few bowls, and watched 3 fights happen outside.. one of which an employee of the club on a ladder, changing the letters on the sign, was almost tipped over.. he as like at least 12 feet (4 meters) up or higher.. that could have resulted in a serious injury..

They don't want us to gather together independently, they don't want us to form our own opinions, they don't want us to rally up or take a stand, and they don't want us to have any power. When big business infiltrates the underground it goes beyond just dubstep and it goes beyond just our little scene. it's not 'pussy' to stand up for what you believe in. and it's not pussy to try and effect change. quite the opposite, really.

I suspect politics is afoot when one promoter in LA has a financial interest and talking shit on another promoter and then openly does so. Bigging themselves and their accomplishments up and talking down on the other promoter. Even if they are total trash that shows you have a serious lack of class. It'd be like Skream coming out and talking shit on Benga. How would you view that?

Great, you've got a sound system and run a night and you bring the same DJs the same week for random shows that you announce the venue the day of.

Do your talking with your parties.

EDIT: oh wait, I get it... they booked your headliner 3 days before your 2 year anniversary in the same city as you... for free. No politics at all.

i started this thread, i'm not in the pure filth crew, and i have no underlying financial interests, but i will big up pure filth all day long, because the PF parties are an example of what happens when a promoter does it right. like i said, if PEOPLE can bring out musicians and throw them a sick party FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC, where 800 people show up on a work night and *every single person* there has a great time, then why would we want to defend it when a CORPORATION throws a dubstep party FOR THE SAKE OF MARKETING THEIR PRODUCT and can't even bring out 200 people without causing a violent ruckus ... ??? PF deserves all the big ups they get, and samxl should be proud, bc his parties are an example of how to bring in new people without exploiting the subculture, and instead feeding into it in a healthy way where everyone benefits. DJs, promoters, and party-goers alike.

umm.. aren't skream and benga on the same label.. didn't they both just play the underground joint?

Im sure like true friends, they probably bust each other balls from time to time..

I'm pretty sure this would be more like, Skream talking shit on teisto..

Hey kamala....dont you drive a scion?

am pretty sure you parked your navy blue, automatic "Xa" in the garage at my townhouse more than one weekend this past year....i think it even had a trillbass sticker on it when it was there, lol

....norks or stfu.

and jaybird...doesnt goldie owe you a kicking down the stairs for bootlegging his classic songs....who are you to call out a corporation for "trashing" dubstep when you show complete disrespect for roots of this genre?

i already said in this thread more than once that i own a scion and i like my car, but that doesn't mean i think they should be throwing dubstep parties. and by the way my car is manual, and no i never actually put that trillbass sticker on there ... but hey at least u got the color right.

and you're one to talk shit on bootlegging. I can think of a number of trillbass tunes off the top of my head that use bootleg samples. hrrm lets start with ... lotus ;)
