really think his flow fits funky nicely, would be wicked if he started to do a lot cos i was always kinda sad he never really lived up to his potential in grime.

"21 Seconds remix" is on our last Rinse show. Doctor on Inflation will be on our next one (next thurs, 11pm). It's good, but i think Maxwell D's is better (that's on our Rinse May show).

Listening a couple of times to Joy Orbison's Hyph Mngo cos I wanted to find out what it is that triggers all the enthusiasm, I must say I'm shocked and depressed. The beat is very fine, alright. But it's all obscured by the obstrusive vocals and organs, so familiar from the mega-venue cheesy trance bubble. Or is it a parody ridiculing the death-drive element in dark halfstep?

Will it have shut down by then cos all the punters have moved 'next door' to hear Joy Orbison? Or will FWD themselves have changed their sound to prevent that from happening? The vocals and synths make the tune mate. Love that vocal.

FWD is definitely following the evolution, probably helping to drive it. Most weeks these days you seem to get a bit of funky, a bit of garage, a bit of wonky, a bit of wobble, a bit of undefineable stuff somewhere in the middle... nice trend.

Dunno if there any regular clubs in LDN that are consistently pushing this sort of intersection...

But yeah, it seems to me like there is a bit of a divide between people (clubs, DJs, punters, producers etc) who are interested in following that direction to see where it goes and people who are happy with brutal wobbly stuff and want a good no messing night out where they can hear plenty of that.

Actually what it most reminds me of in terms of vibe is the 2003 Essential Mix by High Contrast, which is really early-house/rave oriented.

It's definitely got a rave feel to it, it's just a brilliant mish mash of everything

Yeah, that's spot on. Clubs having a broad approach is key to having a strong music scene.

People switching exclusively to Funky is just as depressing as people listening to nothing but wobble.

On the original topic, I'm a little surprised at how much attention the Joy Orbison tune is getting but it's a nice little tune.

can imagine that doctors flow would be alot over funky (havent heard) although I tend to think that Maxwell D's tunes are a bit over rated, although props for giving them all away completely free!

Just not really feeling it as much as some of the tougher, more percussive beats. Although I can see why they are so appealing.
