Its funny how destroying your own community is now put through a right/left wing filter, now that the riots are over.

All of you would be thinking different if that was your sofa store burned to the ground, or your electronics store pilfered. Its got fuck all to do with politics when you've lost your entire source of income because sone kids needed flatscreens and xboxes.

Which is why victims don't get to set sentences. Please Britain, let's keep our self control.

Easily said when you've never invested hard money into a business, and seen it ruined in 1 hour. How does the 89yr old barber in tottenham, who had his barber shop looted, feel about the problems facing britain today? Should he tick off the left boxes, or the right boxes?

Asking how he feels isnt going to get his shop back, actions are.

Stop trying to make another country's problems worse than they already are... I have no idea how that man feels (and neither do you), but I imagine he's been at least slightly heartened by the fact that the country is currently having a whip-round for him.

I'm not sure if you've ever even been to London, but we fucking live here... we understand our community and we don't need people who aren't part of the community trying to whip up yet more hysteria and division. We have enough already.

You do understand why victims don't do sentencing almost anywhere in the world, right?

seckle.....you are aware of where i live yeah?...you are nowhere near this I am right in the middle...ill let you have your opinion though as its irrelavent

ive been very much aware of whats happened...all i said was people are displaying authoritarian tendencies that didnt previously

personally this was always on the cards due to the way our society demonizes the underclass and if anything sidelines them and doesnt even acknowledge them....guess what this is the product of not acknowledging them for all this time....they dont share our values and are a bit fucked in the head

The police will become authoritarian dont worry after the police werent given enough numbers to tackle the initial orgy of destruction and theft that will now be the justification

its not about the police i have spoken to a number of riot police and have mates in the police as well....this goes a lot higher than how the police are...they are just fullfilling the greater agenda...laser shotguns, id cards and microchipping just around the corner woooo

Ok, so with that train of thought, lets not have any more comments on america, its culture or its social issues, because we don't have enough of it. How does that sound?

I love London, and this idea that i can't be upset or have opinions about the riots because I don't live there is ridiculous.

i was saying you were as entitled as i was maybe that didnt come across...you seemed to be saying that unless youd had your stuff or business robbed you had no right to have a view on those taking hardline views

right and left wing are just easy ways to categorise certain mindsets

there are far too many right wing things being said by the media as well

how are they gonna take peoples benefits away and kick people out of their homes????

hows that gonna work its a stupid idea

I just think its funny that there was no right/ left talk before the riots, or during, but now as people are facing even more draconian steps by the govt, everything is back to what box you fit into.

I'd be rebuilding reeves cnr too. Big up

I think any adverse left OR right wing reaction is bad. What we need is a good, long period of reflection before we do anything untoward.
It disgusts me when I see people talking about the things that should be doing here; from removing benefits (some of these people are going to be parents, and have families), forcing sterilisation on those involved in the riots (wtf?), enforcing some kind of law whereby working class people can only have 1 child a la China, - and public execution!

These riots might show up the sects of society, the valueless, let's face it, arseholes, who will willingly rob a local shop and beat up an innocent person for their garms, but it also shows up the the nasty rhetoric and ill feeling, class discrimination, racism and prejudice in society.
It's important that we study both ends of the spectrum. Right now the papers are going insane and don't know what stories to print or what to say, adding fuel to the fire rather than attempting to put it out at the source.

Blame the homogenisation of politics and lack of a real democracy. Mish-mashed with the need to fund political parties to actually win campaigns and suddenly you have parties that stand for nothing.
Big events like this have a strong ability to divide people. Politicians will, unfortunately, in most cases, jump on the bandwagon of what the feel the popular opinion is. Right now it's so unclear that we have all sorts of left and right wing rhetoric being spouted by politicans attempting to gauge the feeling of the people.

Blame media first I'd say. Been interesting reading Telegraph, Times and Guardian since sunday. It seems that this topic has really paralyzed all normal analysis. It reminds me exactly of the same situation we had in the weeks after 9/11, where all rational thought was wrapped up into either american or anti-american posturing. The idea being of course, that if you didn't support xenophobia, you were un-american. Obviously, different things at play between 9/11 and the riots, but this same emotional media response does have a direct effect on right/wrong, morality, politics, beliefs, etc. The biggest mistake of all was Cameron's use of the word "fightback". That was astonishing, and really stupid.
