How can I make this track better? Your feed back is greatly appreciated. cheers
Soundcloud
@um4mi I like the break and then that high synth kicks in. Maybe if your not going for a wobble on the bassline, you could automate it in some way to create more change over time.
@jlennonaudio for me the 4/4 intro seems a bit long, maybe shorten it or something more interesting needs to happen there. Really love how everything slows down after the second vocal sample, nice work there!
@Ascian really sounds quality to me, nice job, one thing, have you tried splitting the frequencies of the bass to get it to stand out more by adding a chorus to mid frequencies and possibly a widener to the higher frequencies

Truely do appreciate the feedback everyone. This one is definitely a summer vibe tune!

I will work on this one and post the revised copy soon.
Big up everyone!

@ e-mission ... loving the 8 bit low slung vibe here, the weakest section for me starts at 1:36 and ends 2:03, do you need that section? maybe you could add one bar of that at the end of a 16 bar section here and there, just a thought
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Yeah my next step is to split the frequencies of some of the basses - Will probably post again once I've given it a bit of an overhaulPRR wrote:@Ascian really sounds quality to me, nice job, one thing, have you tried splitting the frequencies of the bass to get it to stand out more by adding a chorus to mid frequencies and possibly a widener to the higher frequencies

Hey guys, this isn't really a WIP related comment, but I figure I'd ask in here cuz this is where I post the most. I figured I should get opinions from people who recognize me a bit. Feel free to flame me if you think this is spam though
I'm just wondering when would be a good time to start sending off tracks to labels... I know I'm probably not good enough yet, but I'd like to start putting a lot more effort into my music since I'm graduating this month and taking a year off school. I can't decide if the insecurity I'm feeling is legitimate or just cuz of my lack of experience and my crappy studio set up.
I guess what I'm asking is, do you guys think I should send off my next few tunes to some labels, or should I wait a while more until I have proper monitors and am a little better?
Thanks. Like I said, give me shit if you think I'm spamming and I'll delete this.

As you can see I have not been on this forum long so have not listened to any of your stuff... so all I would say is this...hudson wrote:Hey guys, this isn't really a WIP related comment, but I figure I'd ask in here cuz this is where I post the most. I remember listening to an interview with the streets years ago and he said "If you don't think your music is any good, nobody will". If you don't think your stuff is good enough, then I would not rely on people in the internet to change your mind about it by reassuring you. To be honest, if the music is good enough to pay for then people will be begging you for free 320's. If they are.. you should let them have it. That is the way I would try to get my music heard if it was any good. Give a few bits away.. get played out.. release an album.. and then try to get payed by playing out yourself. Why go to a label on your knees asking for them to release your record.. they should come to you on their knees because they love your music.
If you have decided you want to approach labels instead of being approached by them.. How hard is it to send stuff off to labels? It is so easy to do now. You can just email a link to your soundcloud. Or find out what email address to send files too from their website.
Oh and by the way.. who cares if you have a basic studio set up? Dave Spoon released "At Night" only using Reason. Its not like anybody outside production forums actually care
Oh and another by the way.. why exactly do you want to be signed? Go onto http://www.tunecore.com to sell the stuff and promote yourself through the internet.
If it was me I would go down the route of making music.. getting asked for it.. and then letting them have it for free (if I was any good and managed to actually complete something).
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@hudson for what its worth i think if its your plan to send shit to labels then you could be doing that now, your stuff is a lot better than some of the stuff that gets put out every day.. So you should not be feeling insecure in terms of that i think. Also, i don't think you need a fancy studio to make professional sounding music anymore. I've been making music for 18 years and now is that the only time i've been able to say that all you need to make good music is a computer.
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Thanks a lot both of you! Sawtooth, you brought up a lot of great points.
I like my music, that's why I make it... I'm just not sure if other people will. The only reason I'm worried about sending off stuff to labels right now is that, if they don't like it now, they might ignore me in the future
I don't know if that's true, but it seems logical to me haha
My "studio" problem is that I'm producing Logitech computer speakers in a damp, shitty room.
I'll check out tunecore, it looks interesting. I'm definitely down to manage all my promotion and shit for myself for now. Thanks again

Hi!
@ E-Mission :
Intro get's a bit boring with the same "beep beep" constantly tho, has an amazing swing to it once it 'drops'.
When I listen to this I imagine kids jumping in pools and having a blast of a time in the summer.
Summertune!
@ PRR :
I don't know tho but sounds to me that it's 2 tracks pasted together.
The drop seems to have NOTHING to do with the intro.
Try to work on that drop to flow with the intro, seems so odd to me atm.
@ LucasKane :
Really deep track mate, definitly my kind of dubstep.
In high need of that rimshot/clap sample tho!
Really curious what the end result will be!
@ Um4mi :
Love the airy vibe that comes in slowly. Not too fond of that panning sound tho.
Has a hiphoppy kind of feel tho.
Dunno, sounds like Trance had sex with Hip-Hop.
Original sounds!
@ Jlennoaudio :
Haha, Intro seems like me playing my drums man!
Awesome vibe on that intro.
Honestly, I wouldn't have taken those synths. Seems so high it makes my eyes curl in the back of my skull.
Love your idea tho, just honestly not feeling those synths.
That being said, take in consideration that I'm no expert and I'm just commenting on what I feel about your track.
I've been working on this one for a really long time, probably way to long for my average tune-making.
http://soundcloud.com/cubicle/cubicle-nevermind
Would be really pleased if you'd comment on what could be changed or what sounds horrible.
Major thanks in advance!

@ cubicle, the birds chirping could be chopped up more so it seems more random then an audio loop. The key the song is in sounds weird. The melody almost seems like it doesn't match. I feel like it doesn't resolve, which would make it more pleasing especially with something this relaxing. It kind of works though, but I think I personally would like it better if the melodic progression was more defined. The quality is really nice. Real smooth synths and samples and the drums are crisp. That revesed thing is sweet. The bass is so constant I didn't even notice it was there. Idk if you were going for that or not, but maybe it could have more either movement is it modulation while its playing or could be sequenced more rhythmically
@ E-Mission the delay is making me dizzy in the beginning, its so wide. The synth patterns you are using are too repetitive for me. My initial interest is lost as they repeat. I really like how the baseline is carrying the tune in the beginning. Then that goes away and it take a while to come back. I think the beginning baseline is the strongest part of your tune. Also the space feels somewhat empty. You could probably will that up with your synths. As the song continues, definitely too repetitive. I think it would sond sweet if you rotated the snare between the white noise long delay and then short and snappy without it.
@PRR- Those wide intro sounds are baddass, real good quality on those, idk if you made them or found them, but good stuff either way. That deep voice thing feels out of place, either that or the volumes up to high. The intro is so much more powerful than the the rest, i was sad. The wideness and power of the intro should be incorporated somehow into the rest of the song, idk how, maybe those wide atmospherics. Also your distorted bass sound i think could use some more low end i think. Also I can't quite tell if it's there or not, but you should run a sin sub underneath all that midrange.

@hudson really nice track overall, great sound choices and atmosphere, send it out to labels! can't hurt right? maybe try haunted audio records, sounds like something they might put out (they are local for me, and a newer label willing to push new artists) ... only negative for me on your track is the hat is too loud in the mix
@briskisgoodforu I really like the funkiness to your track, but for me its all about sound choices. You gotta start with really solid sounds, especially the bass, kick and snare. Once you find a really good kick and snare smack those beats with some saturation
@cubicle solid ideas here, but for me the mix down doesn't seem right, they have a great thread on this forum on mix downs, search for "gain structure". Everything in your songs goes well together but it doesn't seem glued together in a sense, perhaps you need more compression on certain elements
thanks for your feedback guys. I agree about the intro not flowing with the rest of the song.... I wrote the intro after the rest was completed and was struggling with getting them to flow together, perhaps I can bring the intro back in the drop. The sine sub is there it just needs to be brought up a bit.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Lucas Kane: Good space, seems a lot of tracks in this genre lack space, and its always refreshing to hear in a track, less definitely IS more. Nice overall coherency. The bass is clear, and the drums are nicely compressed and clean, good job! Keep it up!
PRR: You've got a handle on the wobbles clearly, so far structure sounds decent, good variety fx wise. If you're asking how to make it better, push all those elements further, more edits, CTRL+C-CTRL+V's, put some personality to it, entice a dancefloor with it, an underlying theme or riff/melody (maybe dark-ish?)
. But thats just what I personally would do with it, it is ultimately YOUR track. Overall, I like where you're headed with this.
um4mi: Nice tension you have building up here, definitely plays out like an actual story or song, rather than a piece of dancefloor fodder. Also, you and I both know, genre's suck! Do something original, which you clearly have here. Personally I would add more variety in the bass department. Tear it down like a demolition, and piece it all back together into a completely new manifestation of its own self, play it out like a parody of the first half, only MORE abstract and broken down.
Well, heres one Ive been working on for hours on end, my attention span can only handle so much editing and chopping for 4 or 5 hours at a time and then i tend to take a one day break and come back to it fresh, so this one has roughly been a week long venture so far.

TactileZero - Your hours of chopping and arranging have paid off! Seriously sick stuff mate. I love that you can't tell where the tune is going to tell - Very dark. Very original - pretty awesome really
The only thing I will say is that the vocal that begins at 26 seconds needs to be turned up or maybe have a clean very compressed version low in the mix behind it... also the pan jump and volume change at 28 seconds is a bit too much.. Chill that out a bit somehow may with a band pass when it pans fast left and then take it off when he pauses
Great job

@tactilezero first reaction was wow, love the 3 different sections, the dub out fx, then beat and vocal, and then the dark bass kicks in. You can tell how much time you've spent on this. Only negatives for me was I wished the dark bass section had more peaks and valleys in terms of energy level, it just kind of sustains itself at a mid high range.
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@ e-mission - lovely sub melody, maybe switch things up a bit more in places as it seems repetitive at times (short attention span)
other than that, yeah, that is a nice bouncy summer track!
@ narrator - wow, the breakdown before the drops, dude, that is some good drum processing.
also, very interesting sounds and cool fx, i like this
@ mistayif - this track is gorgeous, love the bass, love the melody and how everything is just so together!
this is what I've been looking forward to listening to in this epicly long night.
thank you for making my night
Now my turn
Basically so far, no eq or compression on this so unsure about the mix etc..
And maybe a bit repetitive in parts but its just a general idea, and feedback would be lovely, thanks in advance my forum brethren!
