@PRR as to how make it better, make put some hihats in there that has some swing, cause that rusko-esque has a nice groove to it, but the durm pattern is to stright 4 on the floor, know what i mean good sound design bro, i think the sound design is good as is, just drums could use a little improving good job mate :W:

@tactile zero love those delays in the beginning and the atmospheric pad. i wasnt expecting that change up, but that vocal sample fits nicely, i need to ask are you using reason? cause it just "sounds" like reason, i think the midrange basses need to be brought "foward" more in the mix, the mix sounds good level wise, just maybe needs to be eq'd? just sounds like muffled or something, hence why i asked if using reason, great song though man just the mastering is all could use work

@dr zitbag this is great! i loce the subs and the whole atmospheric sound of those pads, drums are great, very bengaish, not more criticism i can give, if it was my tune i would as maybe a lower sub in the breaks or something so people with systems can have that nice low bass too as opposed to just the higher sub bass, other than that great tune :4:

heres a more mellowed out tune i started a while back and just recently revisted and decided i want to finish it, i know the mixdown is kind of rough right now but i plan on working out the kinks

@RandoRando:"Clouds" sounds fucking brilliant. Sub is good n heavy. What freq are you lp'ing through? Might sound even better capped a little lower :W: Love that shaker you're using... really makes the beat. Keep it up! PS: Dig the 100 BPM stuff too, everyone knows 140's out ;-)

@ PRR : I like how those vox come in att random places in your track. I don't like how you ly it down pretty much like Datsik lays his tracks down though. Think it could need the bass to be just a little lower in the mix and maybe add a subtle ledsynth.

@ tactilezero : THOSE VOCALS! <3 <3 <3
You've definately got an own sound here and I like it man! Would love a heavy breakdown at the end, where I think the bass is getting a bit annoying. Maybe take the vocals again over a simple 2-step beat? Well, I'd love to here more from you :)

@ RandoRando : That's one of the best intro's I've heard for a while you know. I love intro's like that, but I can't get 'em to work myself :D
Would like a little more shuffle to the beat though, and maybe som random sound, a dub siren would be perfect for this! I like that you can make this laidback stuff too :)

My track :
Got no compressing, a little EQing, a little mixing and no mastering going on here. So I would love to here from you what is needed on those parts :) And maybe what I should change in sound design and so on. And I should maybe add another lead synth, or tweak the one I've got so far a little, any feedback is appreciated:)
I know that it's nearly finished but I haven't been working on it for so long so I still call it a WIP. Thanks ahead :)

@drzitbag great melody/progression ... lovestep right herrr ... I wish there was this dark sub bass with overtones imitating the melody underneath it all

@Fused Productions love the intro very 90's hip hop retro, not sure if I love the bass (sound, melody or wobbles), maybe find the best little 2 bar sections of melody and wobbles that groove and create solid 16 bar sections out of them. I like the vocal samples, and I really like the end, sounds really nice with just that sub, filtering down the drums is all good too

@RandoRando I LOVE THE SUB now that I got that out, I do find the intro a bit too samey even though I do like the pads if you put some more percs and fx to keep it interesting then it will be a banger.

@dr-zitbag I do like the atmosphere it sounds like the tunes going the future garage route which is always a good thing! I like the top end I do find the kick and snare a bit weak though maybe layer them up!

@Tactilezero I'm a bit biased against Brostep but because this one isnt wobbling all over the shop I did find myself really enjoying the glitchyness to it. The snare sounds a bit low maybe up the volume a bit, I do like the synths except the sample and hold ones :P

Added a few more things to my project atm not too sure on them any feedback appreciated!

@LucasKane love the drum work really nice sub and bass love the delay on the mid bass ;nothing bad to say

@charleswpeck really nice future garage sound you got there nice deep burial like vocals maybe you could add a passage only with the deep vocals and the nice background melody without the beat

@Fused Productions nice bassline but the melody in the background is to irritating dont wanna sound like a total asshole maybe you take it to the drop or to a totally other track

Thanx for the kind words everyone, and the criticisms are always invaluable. Took me a while to get the balls to leave something out in the public for everyone like this, and I'm kind of glad I did. It's healthy for an artist to get feedback from other artists I think. :W: I definitely have some surprises up my sleeve for this one and will be working on it full force this weekend. (Strap myself into full on nerd mode!) 8)

Rando: No Reason here, just ableton and a couple synths and a controller. I am sure the mastering leaves a lot to be desired, but I simply have no expertise when it comes to MASTERING, mixing on the other hand, I do try to optimise what space I have in the spectrum, but I normally do this as I go. I'm only working from a pair of seinhisers, so until I start my new job next week, this is probably the best ill be able to do for now. As far as bringing forward the midrange, that critisism is noted and ill certainly try it out.

Ascian: Love your work as well! Very psychedelic feel to it, which is basically where my roots are! I'll be following your work.

Skyhigh: Thanx bro! I used to live in Ohio too! But only trekked up to Canton a couple times! Good stuff your doing as well! I'll be following you on their too, and leave some comments soon, when I get more time.

LukasKane:  I know what you mean about the BROstep thing, I was trying to go more for a parody of a brostep tune, only thrown into a blender with 15 hits of acid. But thanks for the positive comments and the criticisms as well. :)

Fused Productions: You will definitely be hearing more in the vein of this track, this was kinda of my way of testing this spectrum of the genre out and giving my own little spin to it.

You're not being an asshole :) Thank's for the feedback, it sounded good on my AKG's but it won't sound good on everything.
I'm not close to any good speekers right now so I can't feedback your track, but I will when I get back.

@ Tactilezero : Great! I subbed to your soundcloud mate :)

Cheers mate! does the intro sound ok all the little percs and FX? don't want it to get boring on the ears!

@lucaskane maybe add another sweep thats starts a bit earlier just to get the attention and put a dubdelay on the short sweep to float into the beat

@BudSpencertron - Sounds sooo good in my ears, I love it! I have no idea how to imrpove that, good job!

@LucasKane - I like the intro. Though, I think you should phatten up the bassline, I feel like it's dragging the whole track down.

@Fused Productions - I feel where you are going, I love the more hip hop kinda style. In my opinon the first bassline is too wet and the second way too low and the sample "ohhh" or whatever is kinda off-beat from time to time, keep at it though! :)

Here's my WIP:

just started this today. i know it sucks, but so do all of my productions except maybe a very select few in some opinions... but im still trying to learn. but what i really want to know is should i keep going with it? for some reason im not really fond of this track so far and feel like its going no where and i really dont have any inspiration for it. if i kept going with it id add a lead synth, drum variation, bass variation, and whatever else. im just not sure if this song is worth even continuing. what do you guys think?

man...honestly if you think it sucks, and your not fond of it and its not going anywhere, and have no inspiration for it, then what exactly is the point? :u: Maybe use it as a learning experience for new techniques? Technically its not BAD, the drums sound crispy and analog, it does sort of have a lackluster feel to it, but perhaps thats just an extension of your lack of inspiration. I definitely hear potential if you just expand on some of the vague ideas already expressed in the work itself. My advice for you, when I get stuck in a rut, I go far away from the computer, spend some time outside, go to a party, listen to other music, and then come back when ive got some ideas to express, I never just do it out of boredom. I wouldn't completely scrap it, just save it for another day when you have more ideas. Its also common courtesy per the thread rules to critique three others if you want yours critiqued, so you may have just gotten a freebie, unless you critiqued some earlier in the thread, as I haven't bothered going through all 64 pages of this thread.

i dont think i have critiqued 3 yet, my bad. thanks for the heads up. i will definitely give some more feedback. and yeah i guess your right it was sort of a result of my boredom and i guess thats why its sort of blah to me. i do think it has some potential too but i am just stuck with it. i do sort of like the sound of the drums too i started to eq them just a tad and get them sounding nice. i still gotta eq my bass kicks better tho after layering them. but cant really think of how to change my bass line and add variation to it more than i did. but then again i did just start it so maybe ill just sit on it and have some more inspiration and ideas soon.

I checked them out and really liked the stuff they're putting out, so I sent this song to them. They said they liked it and were "definitely listening" 8)

I don't like it. It's not that you're sounds are particularly bad or anything but the overall mix brings no energy IMO. Try more movements in other ways (Attack/Sustain are your friends).

@DubMikey Your track needs some atmosphere or something to fill it up its to dull and boring atm (add some reverby atmosphere or little soft melody) but the wobble is nice. Not really feeling the tempo, have you tried playing it slower to see what it sounds like?

@BudSpencertron feeling that junglish kinda rythym you got happening. not a big fan of the blips at the start as i feel they dont fit the tracks style well? kinda sounds robotic/alienish. Maybe switch them out for something. maybe a wierd sample like a tiger growling or something haha.

@LucasKane not really my style but all the same il try to give feedback. try adding in some more atmosphere. i know its not meant to be an exciting track but it needs more fills in the mix imo. very clean sounds though atm nice work.

here is something i just whipped up over the last hour or so. let me know what you think :)

@dubmikey thanks glad that you liked it ,to your track when you listen through it just bangs in your head thats great so keep the speed but maybe change the drums a little bit up; the bass is huge

@BevOh thanks for the criticism, a crying baby in a empty hallway isnt wierd enough? haha just kidding. your track makes me feel uncomfortable is he talking about me? but the bass is very futuristic maybe add some more bitcrusher or a vowel filter when the bass offers the opportunity?

@Fused Prodcutions i like the melody of the wobble. but imho, i am tired of that wobble sound. i think if you just messed with the parameters a bit on it, maybe a formant filter tunred up a little bit will give it a little more character. the wobble at about 1:50 sounded better, i think you should use that one instead of the first one, but i can barly hear that one! turn it up a bit. Drums levels sound good, maybe try layering a more punchy (150hz) snare underneath yor current one, but very subtle to give it a little more punch :W:

@budspendertron mix sounds amazing, nice and clean and everysound has its space, that snare is really nice and all the random snare sounds also. dont know much i can criticize on, very nice man

@dubmikey please take this as constructive criticism the drums dont match the wobble at all, wobbles are fast and energetic, i can barely hear the kick and snare. try jsut beefire drum samples, let me give you tip on mixing to bring your drums to life, turn down everything, and bring up your kick and snare, and then slowly bring everything up around those while making sure that they are still punching loud, in a song like this you want those hard hitting drums.know what i mean man, you really know how to make them wobbles wobble though mate lol :W:

@lyons i like the dark atmospheres the whole track has, but same as i told dubmikey, i think it would be so much better if you had a powerful snare, just think about it, a nice punchy snare you will feel in your chest on a system with some nice stereo seperated reverb, i can hear it now, to match those nice basses you got goin on, they are nice and dark, other than some minor drums processing, top notch lyons

@bevoh you were listening to chainsaw calligraphy before making this werent you? lol where did you get that molesting sample? i like it haha
try sidechaining your kick and snare to that filthy wobble. it will sound nice, im liking the "uhaaaa" sample that comes on the breaks, add that wobblin sub bass too!
