I love working on the ipad. But I have no like real midi/audio i/o. I don't know why I've dragged my heals, but I'm glad I did, I was going to buy the alesis dock, but that is already deprecated by apple's constant os upgrades. That is the real threat with this platform. You get locked in with no upgrade path. Check Retronyms for their hardware project, the name is slipping my mind at the moment, and I only snuck down here for a sec. OH SHIT I'M BURNING BREAD. FUCK YOU DSF.mks wrote:Yeah, it would just be another piece of gear that I would need to buy. Up to now, I've tried to avoid Apple products.
Although, I hear you guys talk about producing on your iPads. How is it as an instrument?

Re: Gear lust
I've mostly been interested in the iPad as a MIDI sequencer and Genome is fantastic. I mean...its basically like working in a DAW...but an iPad + Genome + MIDI interface is still hundreds less than most of the 16 track sequencers out there. Plus each track can do polyphony.
I'm going to be picking up a soft synth on it soon. Just want to make sure I get on compatible with Genome. But I do agree with Nowaysj, I fear that updates will make any hardware/software incompatible. Can you even roll back versions of iOS? I'm seriously considering not evening doing updates of anything. Just turn off wifi and forget about it!
I only got an iPad because of pure chance. My Nexus 7 took a crap and Best Buy gave me a gift card. This was around black friday. I got a 16 gig iPad air for about 80 dollars, plus...99 for a lightening dock with MIDI i/o and one stereo audio i/o

Anybody want to buy an ax60?
Just bought a Sequential Six Trak...
Swear to god if you don't hear from me, call the freaking police. This is getting dangerous.

Re: Gear lust
How much for the ax60 plus shipping? I'm not sure I could pull it off, just curious. Also, would you be interested in a Volca keys as partial trade? I'm baby sitting a class for a colleague and I might get paid for it all at once. This is a big maybe. But what the hell...its early cocktails today taking care of the little lady recovering from surgery at home...and I'm bored with netflix lol.

Re: Gear lust
I'd have to check out your keys, I'm not sure its faulty!
I don't know, lemme think about it. I think I paid $455 with shipping. I gotta get something close to it. I'll record some sounds from it. It gets REALLY filthy.
Speaking of which, dude sold it to me, it was physically durty. I've spent some time cleaning it up. It actually has like a dark grey sparkle finish, thought it was flat grey.

Re: Gear lust
Oh. Well...for something around 455 I might not need a trade. Anyway...like I said...this will only happen if I get a big ole' fat paycheck all at once. Otherwise I can't make it work.

Re: Gear lust
Okay. Will think on this. Damn, camera is charging upstairs. I wanna take a pic for you. The thing is ominous, like darth vaders vco polysynth. Dark gray with a sparkle!
Fucking crazy selling this thing. I LOVE it. I may pick up a sequential multitrack, and have a shootout. See which one meets the most of my needs. (Truth is, I'm spending all my time with the volca bass). Working on this BOC song. Gonna try and wrap it up tonight. I'll post it in the TUNA! thread, you can check out the V Bass sounds. Though it is not doing bass, its doing poly chords.

Re: Gear lust
Yea. Cool. Like I said this whole thing is iffy for me ;p
How does the bass do poly chords? tune the osc? I will check it out.
I also haven't forgotten the MicroBrute demo. I'll probably get to it this weekend.

Re: Gear lust
Yeah, that's why I'm saying it is like a minimoog. It doesn't have that phaaaat ass that the mini does, but it is a tunable 3osc monosynth. It has a very similar feature set.
Minimoog: $8,000
Volca Bass: $100
You do the math!

Re: Gear lust
just spent the day re-coning some subs that needed some dire TLC, sounding very heavy in here now, horrible for production: amazing for Djing though

Now I want more speakers tho
Probably another set of mid-tops for the other side of the room, full coverage

Now I want more speakers tho

Re: Gear lust
THA SOUND CHAMBA
Re: Gear lust
Anyone seen much of the volca sample yet? Read a review in Sound On Sound that makes it sound interesting. Although currently it requires and ipad or iPhone to put your own samples on It.
Re: Gear lust
^theres an android app out iirc, and the sdk is open source so im sure we'll be seeing some Osx and windows apps out soon for sample transfer.

Re: Gear lust
Caustic has developed an app for Android that lets you load samples. AFAIK there is no removable memory so this will be the only way to load samples over USB (?) with a software program.wolf89 wrote:Anyone seen much of the volca sample yet? Re: Gear lust
I'm really trying to not want the new Electribe. I know the sampler is coming out soon, supposedly, and that seems like a smarter buy for me...been imagining it as the end of my signal chain for jamming out. Record samples off everything else into Electribe, arrange, party.
SunkLo wrote: If ragging on the 'shortcut to the top' mentality makes me a hater then shower me in haterade.
Re: Gear lust
Whats the price on those?
Re: Gear lust
The electribe EMX2 is 399. I *think* the sampler is supposed to be 299 which seems like waaaaay sweeet. Even for 399 I'll take one. I really just need to hold out. Fuck. I don't even need it. I need to spend more time in the studio. Just a bad time in life at the moment. Too much stress.
The sampler has the synth engine in it, all the FX, it just doesn't have all the modeled filters. It has basifc LPF, HPF and BPF.
