But, at least to my ears, the difference between James and Rusko is apparent. The bass and philosophy (as you said) in James' music is obviously rooted Mala and Burial above all else.LumiNiscent wrote:I think dubstep could rather be descibed as a scene, or a way of making/interpretating music than as a genre. For example, the music that James Blake makes is even further away from the original dubstep than stuff like Rusko, but James is a part of the scene, has that same philosophy and he came up making dubstep(like) music. That's why you will see James Blake on a DMZ lineup but not Rusko. Me and my mate (who isn't into dubstep) have had some discussions about this after I've been playing him loads of dubstep. He has a hard time believing that Burial can be placed in the same genre as Coki, the Bug, Kode9, Loefah, Vex'd etc. So we pretty much came to the conclusion that dubstep could rather be defined as a community, consisting of like-minded producers, dj's and listeners who tend to stick around 140bpm and have a love for subbass and space.

The important thing is that we can all decide for ourselves what we think is or isn't dubstep. Now if only we could all repress the urge to express ourselves in that regard.

It like breaks but around 160 bpm, and produced with actual sticks, insane.
Re: Isn't it time to divide Dubstep into subgenres?
ivacep = the next Skream
Ember Breaks = the next dubstep
Now we just need to find a Skrillex of Ember Breaks and we'll have an entire new scene!

Word on the street is Wanka's working on his interpretation of srebme breaks. I for one am shitting myself with excitement. But seriously, that thread of ivacep's is priceless. Tough one deciding if it beat that guy claiming he was quite sure that he'd made the best dubstep mix of all time

Re: Isn't it time to divide Dubstep into subgenres?
Wanka for srebme Breaks will be like Mala for dubstep. He didn't start it, but he perfected it. (can someone actually pm Wanka and ask him to make an srebme breaks track?)
Hey does anyone want to have a go at making an srebme breaks tune?
I mean, it's an incredibly quickly growing scene, so I'm sure there's a lot of fortune and fame to be gained by hopping on the scene before it gets too popular and Skrillex decides to make an srebme Breaks tune.
Are there any EB labels popping up yet? I can't imagine ivacep can go much longer without being signed, that much talent and creativity doesn't stay unsigned for long.

Hi Wanka
As you are aware Ember breaks has became the new dubstep
being around 145bpm with lots of samples of sticks you can see why people are jumping on the bandwaggon, i think you need to go with the times and make some srebme breaks tracks
Much respect

Well put!!fractal wrote:"imho, whether it's jungle, hardcore, 2 step, garage, breakbeat, dubstep, dnb, dub techno, techno, trance, house, funky, tropical bass or whatever, it's all the same music--> EDM, everything else is just a subgenre of that"
"the more lines we draw the further we try to separate all the other parts of electronic dance music, to stay in one bpm even, is kinda strange."
"it's no big deal really, it's just music!!"
No distance can separate,

ridiculous.
by the way:
I REALLY invented a new genre! SOAKSTEP
want to know how you do it?
take a foot bath while producing dubstep, it's as easy as that.
Re: Isn't it time to divide Dubstep into subgenres?
NAH MATE it's 145, it's jjust the stick make fast aspect of the track and so it sounds like it's 160 even tho it's 145. basically it's achieving what prodigy failed to do.Jurrecane wrote:Shiiiit that producer ivacep, MONSTER TUNES!JTMMusicuk wrote:its the next big thing, even dnb forum are talking about itSonika wrote:Whatever.
