Re: Reso Producer Q&A
Big ups reso those tracks are tight! can't believe you made those 4 years ago such talent I have no questions at the moment was just curious where I would be able to get a copy of Nerve? really feeling that tune man defiantly very interesting

Re: Reso Producer Q&A
Major props for doin this man!
Just 1 question for ya
- Do you ever make a bassline first? I seem to get these crazy ideas for basslines and I can get them down but then getting a drum pattern to work with it is near impossible. I've been playing drums for 10 years, but when i make the drums first i find my basslines are to "mechanical" and not enough emotion in them any ideas?

Re: Reso Producer Q&A
hey man big ups for doing this! love your stuff and this thread is extremely useful.reso wrote:The otacon bassline is really about 6 or 7 different sounds played in order. I then went through and varied up what it does note wise and also with what the filters are doing. A lot of my basslines are really just lots of different sounds played one after the other.mmjdw wrote:Good drum tips... already used a couple but resampling the kick seems very useful.
Anything for bass? I've barely got started with resampling and was wondering how a typical bassline would be arranged, step by step? For instance in otacon, where it starts off wobbling and then is just like WOHTBBOHE (or something like that.)
Also do you use presets a lot (especially pads).
I can't really explain how to do it, i'd have to show you.
i use the odd preset for pads n things, but i generally tweak them to make it different from the original preset.
Sometimes i make my own pads. There's nothing wrong with presets for pads really if it's not the "point" of your tune.
can you please make a masterclass video at some stage, would be most appreciated thing ever!

Great Q&A, really enjoying the questions and the answers Reso is going in-depth on. Guess I'll try asking a few:
What version of Logic are you running on the iMac, 8 or 9?
Are you seeking out extra plug-ins when you hit a technical wall with the native plug-ins, and what sort of situations have you encountered like this?
Any more plans to work with I.D., or any other previous collaborators?
Any drum'n'bass releases lined up for release soon, or saving a few things for the album? And how big is the album going to be? Any exclusive songs on it, e.g. certain ones only on the digital release and/or other ones on a CD or vinyl release?
Re: Reso Producer Q&A
thanks for taking time out of your daily to answer some of our questions.. do you ever think your more of a morning or night person for making tunes? different times different sounding tunes? hopefully you get what i mean. i find myself making very relaxed tunes late at night and a bit more jump up in the day. anyways keep up the good work
Re: Reso Producer Q&A

Re: Reso Producer Q&A
One of my absolute favourite dubstep releases (funnily enough one of yours) is Toasted/Halograms. If you remember could you explain the creative process?
How did you get inspired to do them? Why did you make them so floaty and deep? Also, are they one of your favourite tunes you've made, if not what is? And are we gunna hear more of that side of the sound from you more often?
'nuff respect to you sir! From being picked up by Pressing Issues as a forum head to where you are now, you must be proud of yourself!

Damn Reso, schooling me hard here! Serious gratitude!
Re: Reso Producer Q&A
What midi controllers do you have and find yourself using the most?
Which do you use to for drum beats? If anything like an mpd or trigger finger, how to you prefer to set up each 16 pads?
I really want to learn how to drum but I cannot have a full acoustic drum kit in my apartment and I can't really afford to get a nice full digital kit(but would consider saving for one if its the only way to really advance?)... but for now I'm trying to learn on a trigger finger. If you use a similar thing, or if you were to, do you hook up a pedal for your kick drum or do you use your finger instead...
Thx a bunch man! Super helpful stuff!

Re: Reso Producer Q&A
finally have a couple questions:
what mics do you use when recording your drums?
do you prefer working in audio or midi and plugins?
do you listen to a lot of dubstep for influence or take it from other genres and artists? if so who are your influences?

Damn! Thank you so much for doing this! You are one of my favorite producers at the moment. I just read the first 4 pages of this and I am so pumped to go work on some music - too bad I'm stuck at work and just moved so all my music gear is still packed up in boxes!!
Thanks for the inspiration man!
