You can drive a wood screw through MDF without a drill, although I'd reccomend a powered screwdriver at least, IKEA sell them for cheap.
Ah didnt think of that! I cant seem to work out the top part though, is that like a single panel taken from the TV stand set?

When I put one together I just used the long single shelf they sell (maybe called besta also, can't remember) then added them supports to fit it.

it's piss easy as it's shitty wood

just get one of those tools that punches a little dent to start you off and then you can screw into it by hand. really struggling to think of the name and my attempts at googling it failed miserably, anyone?

just used one literally 15 minutes ago to make a hole for one of these on the under side of my laptop shelf to keep the end of my laptop charger from falling to the floor every time i unplug it

going to stop tinkering with this desk some day but keep thinking of little improvements!

do you mean the top part that the laptop goes on, or the bit the decks go on?

yeah it's the top bit of the tv bench

that means you get a spare bottom piece for another (or if a mate wants to make one). it has screw holes in the top surface of the bottom piece so it wouldn't look as good but does the same job

ikea used to do a table top called vika amon which would be perfect for three decks if you use two pieces, but i decided against it and they seem to have discontinued it. my current table top is a bit small now i've got three decks, which means i have to fit one on in battle mode which is annoying :(

never thought i'd bother with three but regretting that decision now grr

Ha yeah but the link still works and I can even put it in my basket :W:
Edit; turns out its because it defaults to grey which is £15 more then birch or black.

it's all about the sleek black one

related items on ikea reminded me about the second incarnation of my chavy undershelf lighting - you can pick the colour with the jog wheel and even have it flashing around in a cycle of them all (but that looks a bit shit tbh)

I'm getting a 2x2 expedit for my room soon. Big enough to house a selection of my records and a turntable + amp.

My room is a dust magnet however so I'd like to protect 'em a bit. Could put em all in those plastic sleeves but cba to put simple 12" singles in 'em. Was thinking about getting a few Lekman boxes; they fit perfectly into Expedit units. Does anyone know if LPs fit in Lekman boxes however?

You have about just short of an inch of room to play with above a 12" on an expedit shelf.
The LEKMAN is
Width: 33 cm = 12.992126 inches
Depth: 37 cm =14.5669291 inches
Height: 33 cm = 12.992126 inches

So it might be a tight squeeze once the records are in the box and the box on the shelf, buy one try it out, if not, take it back for a refund.
