Or do you reckon that the recipients generally don't have time to read through all that because they're already swamped with emails from other people who are sending them tunes.

Thanks.
I'd definitely prefer it. A bit more information than "Check out my track..." definitely catches my attention, and will help me filter out those that I know aren't appropriate.

Generally I'll scan that sort of thing till I've hear the music. Once i listen to the music, then I'll check it out a bit more in depth. Not sure how similar that is to other label owners though.

i recently sent a zipped folder with a few tunes and a text file that included all my contact information and my bio to a label, i was thanked for the contact sheet. im sure not all label owners will care or care to look but might be good.

Is it acceptable to pitch an entire EP or like 3 or 4 tracks at a time to a label?

Keep in mind that the tracks are all held together by a common theme & aren't just 4 random tracks
every Tuesday 11pm EST on http://cosmicsound.club

I'd say definitely. If that's how you'd like it to be presented, you're up front about it. The label might have different ideas, but at least you've got it out there.

I'm not sure if it has been answered somewhere in the thread,
but when giving out CDs with my tunes, do you think it would be ok to have some tunes that are up for free download on there?

As long as it's clearly noted, I think that would be fine - if you're happy with them, and it gives a good example of your production - then it's fine.

Don't expect anybody to sign them though.

Maybe send the best song with the option of the entire ep seperately. If they like the track they'll check the EP.. if they get the EP they might scrap it after the first tune which may be the weakest on the EP. Plus theres loads of impatient people out there who don't want to download whole EPs.

I don't think you even need to specify that tbh.

A good think to do is offer them the option of downloading a ZIP with everything in it, and also give the option of listening to individual tracks on soundcloud or something just in case they don't want to download. But this has probably been mentioned already.

I think it should just be a thread called 'Don't be rude: reply to emails'.

Always better to receive a polite no than just air.

A few years back I posted out about 20 CD's and handed out probably another 40 at nights. I think I only got seven responses but five of them were from people that went on to become big names in dubstep (including Vex'd).....seems that those most into music took time to listen to new things and be helpful/polite and respond with comments or even just a qucik email to say thanks.
