@Zonetrooper5: Really like the spaceyness in this track, everything seems to sit well in the track, the eerie melody goes nicely as well, might need some minor adjustments though with arrangement maybe, just my opinion though :P

@Zerbaman: Love the intro and the sub bass. I'm not quite sure what I'd add to the track though xD

@lowlif3: Bassline is amazing. You should teach me or send me the preset so I can figure out what you did :P Contrary to what some other person said, I like the way the drums sound.. They sit well with the track and sound pretty clean

Here's something I've been working on.. I've only been producing for a few months xD

Not sure how to embed my song into my post so I'll just post the link

Pretty sick bassline. Like the littler predator ticking noise too. All it's missing is some more interesting percussion I'd say.

That little scratchy noise is nice, reminds me of Looper for some reason.

I liked the build up, but was really expecting a smashing bass to come through, even just a powerful sub :(

Just started this, never really tried drumstep before(?) - if it even is that. Sounds messy but it's like 30 minutes in the making.

Entered a private competition the other day called the 4 song challenge. Basically you had to make 1 song each hour for 4 hours, BUT they assigned the genre's and you had to take influences from the artists they assigned. It was

1st song - house[no influence]
2nd song - dubstep[datsik influence]
3rd song - dutch house[afrojack influence]
4th song - remake a song of your choice[REMAKE, not remix]

here was my entry:

Soundcloud

Was pretty hard but it was a nice technical exercise making genre's outwith my normal under a time limit. :4:

@Influx - Cool track. Just needs a little more bass imo. :D

@Espy - I like the drumstep, though it's normally not what I usually hear, cool track though! :)

So I've listened to what you guys said in here and here what I came up with - Still I am only on my 5th week of producing:

@epsy (4hr produky), pretty good stuff, definately hear those influences, datsik tune sounds exactly like every datsik tune (not something i'd usually concratulate someone on doing), afrojack influence is top, right up my street!.

leave some feedback later bit tired atm.

here summin i've been jamming today, still early days hence the title.

love :U:

edit: fluidmoshun- finished tune in your sig is stunning, love the violin (just needed to add that)

I like how you put in that scratchy noise (pencil scribble?) its creative man
Thanks
Some spoons scraping. I pitched them down and distorted for the "lo-fi" feel

@Traffek -> Love this man. Although it wont exactly seem this way from my WIP.. I love subtly in a tune with a strong groove drawed out in the beat. This song has that. I would focus on adding something to the atmosphere in hopes to give it a more fuller listen. I don’t have my monitor headphones at work but it sounds like it lacks sub on my earbuds. Also mix around your hats.. use a few diff samples.. and it will really get the groove moving and generate more interest for the listener. Nice job man!

@Akkep -> Love this dub man. Really I wish I had more to offer advice wise cause i make a much different sound. Atmosphere is right on. I really enjoyed the focus on the movement of the hats. Nice verb on the snare on the drop. I probably would’ve added more energy in the bridge to progress to the next chorus. Although this is much more atmospheric then my stuff so that’s just my oppinion

@DubMikey -> Hey man first and foremost nice work for only 5 weeks in (Keep it up!). I like the focus on the atmosphere which in my oppinion is important to focus on when starting out. I enjoyed the fact the track wasn’t overly cluttered and it gave the soundscape room to breathe. When you don’t have many elements in a song coming in and out it really draws a heavy focus to the atmosphere you’ve created and that for me hurts the track. It just wasnt interesting enough to me. My interpretation of fixing this would be adding in and out other elements to make it move into a groove . I will say though that your basslines have come further along in 5 weeks then mine have in over a year 

My WIP ive been working on this week:

@raincoatdisaster - Thanks for the feedback, it's very useful and much appreciated - I'm glad you commented on the atmosphere, because that was really something I was focusing on. I will definitely take your advice and try add some more different sounds to make it more groovy, catchy and less boring! For your track: I love it, especially the drums. And when the wobble kicks in, it just gets even more epic. Keep working on it and you'll have a banger, I'm sure!

@raincoatdisaster: Good intro. Drums need way more beef to them - could do with some compression/valve distortion/maybe saturation. Kick is too weak. I like the drop. Good start definitely. Work on that bass, give it more crunch. The chords are great.

@chemicalbliss: Eerie stuff. Good use of panning on the percussion. Great atmosphere - could bring up those background elements up a bit though. Bass is creepy, but is too weak - could do with a bit more oomph in the sub. Good start.

@fluidmoshun: Not kean on those drums, they feel too out of time and a bit "gamey". However, I do like the variation used. Synths are interesting. Kind of has a Clark approach to it - which is a hard sound to get right. I suggest adding way more distortion and compress the shit out of everything to make it crunchy and smashed - if that's what you are going for. At the moment it's too clean for this kind of track. Work on it, can be a pretty meaty track.

@Dubmikey: Interesting sounds used in the background. Can't say I find this track enjoyable to listen to though. The bass is far too sparatic for my taste and the percussion feels quite grating. With some more "smoother" sounds, like sweeps and what not, this could be far better. Something worth working on though.

If you don't mind, swing over to a thread I've made in the dubs section about my new track I'd love some feedback on:

SERIOUSLY THOUGH! How did you make that terrifying bassline? I honestly was not expecting you to go all out Skrillex on my ears!
Thanks for the tips and feedback! :D well I just messed around with massive so it was a bit of an accident. I can send you the presets if you want :)
no i dont use massive lol but thanks

I appreciate the comments man. One thing thats important for me is to keep in mind that less is more. I always catch myself adding in things that clutter up the frequencies. Although keeping that in mind too much can lead to a boring track.. The more i produce the easier it is to find the balance between an empty and cluttered track. So keep practicing!

Some advice on drawing interest - Try introducing new elements in pairs to the song.. when you introduce only one new thing every 4 bars it can get boring quickly for the listener.. I think the goal primarily should be the things the listener doesnt notice.. which leads to my next little bit about FX.. adding a clash with reverb or just the rising and falling of white noise can really add interest.. and can help dramatically with transitioning between different segments in your song..

Not all music follows this but for the shit i produce im trying to create an energy that is constantly rising till the outro. Food for thought.

@badboysebastian: this is fire. loving all the rhythms you got goin on. think the kick sounds a little hollow. i also think the track needs some sort of less fierce breakdown at some point otherwise it dose start to drag, could then drop in the heavier section after.

@hakka a haunting: beats are sick, heavy tune. feel like the sub could be a bit more prominent and forceful. Intros wicked tho, wheres that sample from?!
export: starts out nice, likin the reverse drum section to break it up. dunno if the pad that comes in at 0.31 really fits though. the mid range wobbles need to be tightened up a bit, they just sound a bit muddy and a bit lost next to the sub bass.

@ fluidmotion: im really liokin the vibe and general idea. Needs a bit of eqing to get rid of some of the mud and make those lovely reverbed highs come through even nicer. Reminds me of clarke. Could also do with some work onthe drums, sound selection and just getting them to really punch through. Its a great track though so far, love to hear the finisehd product.

@zerbaman - really cool, keep working on this i like it. interesting sounds, just needs to keep moving forward.

Any feedback appreciated on this dont know whether to scrap it or not.

@raincoatdisaster - I really like that happy feeling and the build up! Kick is a little bit quiet and the bass sounds a little bit dry. Add some unison or layer some more on top of it. It has a nice tone to it though, so keep that one, just make it fatter!

@rubiconguava - I love your drum work. Drums sound super crisp, except I'm not a fan of the clap, seems out of place. Rest is nice and tight. Atmosphere is great. Need some oomph to the sub though. Isn't my style of dub but it's definitely very smooth! Don't scrap it!

@influx - You just put [soundcloud**]link[/soundcloud**] (remove asterisks **). Your track has a great build up. The drop felt weak though. I think it'd sound great with some huge sub and some kind of fat bass in there, but that's just my style. I feel like the drums should be a lot slower at the drop though, and they just sort of resume your original tempo. Feels weird. Work on the drop.

@chemicalbliss - I love the atmosphere and the perc. Not a fan of the bass.

@rubiconguava - love the chords. dont scrap it, theres definitely something there. needs more progression, more chords and stuff. but the production on whats there is good. definitely do some more with the big delayed chords. drum beat is sick. love the hats too. make more of whatever it is that comes in at 2 mins is.

@ raincoat disaster - intros pretty long, but it sounds good. the drops really muddy, but i guess youll fix that in your mix. the intro is so clear compared to the drop, ha. the bell things seem a bit weird too. actually, not weird, just unrelenting.

@cavana - sounds pretty good. production is pretty good. the main lead needs something to make it more interesting. like, in the drop down bit, its a bit exposed. kicks a bit loud too, or maybe its the vocal isnt loud enough, not sure. but tbh, production is pretty tight, its all down to taste now i guess.

Thanks for the feedback (and every1 else who gave me feedback). You're the second person to say my tune reminded you of clarke, and now I'm really wondering who this guy is? (excuse my uneducated self  )

@samkablaam : Nice tune, clean and flows nicely, perhaps add a little more varity to keep the full near 6 minutes interesting.

@rubiconguava : Flows nicely, can feel a little empty at times, usually when the percussion is playing, a little something behind to keep the momentium flowing would be an added bonus in my opinion.

@raincoatdisaster : I think a re-think of the chords might improve the tune alot, the actual production quality is quite nice, apart from feeling a little hollow and the slight highpass(?) at the intro over the entire tune.

Heres mine, another free tune (soon to be) to celebrate hitting my one thousand download mark, which in my eyes is my first milestone, The mixdown is fairly terrible as is the composition, its very much a WIP.

@Astral - Great beat and synths, so far I see you doing this track justice. Keep it up, man!

@samkablaam - Liking the vocals. I think the overall beat could have more going on, though. Not sure what exactly, but good job.

@rubiconguava - Cool samples. The intro sets the mood nicely. I notice all the concrete sounds in the background, too. Digging the beat! It makes for a great atmosphere. Looking forward to the final product!

This tune is a demo but will probably be considered the final product once I tweak the synths to my liking, feedback is greatly appreciated.

@rubiconguava. Man you are King of keys and textures. I need to getb some tips. Sounding really nice. I guess for me the beat isn't fully resolved, maybe samples, the composition sits well. i would bring in another longer release snare at some stage w reverb.
