Cheers mate. Everything but the reverb and delay for that sound was done inside Massive, and only using one Osc. Shows how easy it can be.Dyssomnia wrote:The sound at about 0:15 really caught my attention, you probably know which one I mean.PERCEPT wrote:If anyone wants to know anything about the track in my sig, let me know.
Great thread btw.
Think it has to do something with some tight filtering and tape distortion, but haven't had my sounds as clean as yours mate, would love some explanation
Also, I absolutely think both of your tracks are insane dance floor smashers! Big up!
Wont go into too much detail, but one OSC, with a lowpass and scream on the filters. Chorus and a tube on the FX for a bit of warmth. Then it's all down to the modulation OSC, in particular the phase. ADSR also plays a big part in these drawn out notes.

Sounds stupid, but the waveform doesn't actually seem to be massively important if you have everything else set up correctly. After i'd finished making the patch i flicked through other waveforms to see if i could find anything else nice, and it didn't alter the sound too much which i found weird. I've used the Additive and various Analogue/Electric waveforms in my recent tracks though.nowhere wrote:I know you dont want to go too far into it but care to explain which waveform.

And how will you inquire into a thing when you are wholly ignorant of what it is? Even if you happen to bump right into it, how will you know it is the thing you didn't know?

Re: The 'help me make that dungeon sound' thread
anybody care to talk about more advanced percussion reverb? legend4ary mentioned eq'ed verb a ways up in his rant
and i was interested by the concept, though i'm not exactly certain to what effect one would use this, other than to sharpen up a mix.

Turn quantise off, then program your hits in by hand so they have a loose feel to them. Use 2 different shaker samples together to build rhythmdj stick wrote:Anyone who can help me a little with programming shakers?
Increase the attack on the ADSRs envelope so that the sound growls into being.dj stick wrote: Also anyone got some tips on how to get that growly bass like Kryptic Minds, Sleeper, District and so on ?

@wub besides the envelope settings any particular tips to get the initial growl sound?

Filter automation so the sound evolves in an almost organic way.

reese (or reece) bass. theres no standard way of creating these sounds, there's no real formula. alot of the time you'll have to experiment and play around, but hey, thats still funnowhere wrote:@wub besides the envelope settings any particular tips to get the initial growl sound?

velocity. even without velocity-layered samples the difference in amplitude makes rhythms sound so much more alive, it's fiddly as fuck but really worth it.

Re: The 'help me make that dungeon sound' thread
There's a Zeds dead track that has a bass sound that hits on the first kick after the drop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Opqkmi9xh4A It almost sounds like its a bassgun being shot (exactly on :42). I would appreciate any assistance on how to make that type of effect in Massive.
