Dead Dred - 'Dred Bass' Resse Bass How-to?
Hi. I was wondering how to replicate the reese bassline in this track with 3xOsc in FLS 10. Thanks in advance.

Re: How To Make This Sound - August 2012
Hi, I not usually post about sound design, because youtube is full of good tutorials. But in this case i don't know where to put my hands.
I'm talkin about the famous drum 'n bass Bassline, similar to a "horn" or a "brass" used in the drop of this song (1:28)
How can i do this in Massive? There is a similar preset in Sylenth1 or Nexus?
Thanks, cheers!

Skrillex's siren synth?
Just wondering, in this song how exactly Skrillex get's that siren sound that's fading in at around 24 seconds
And also the siren sound at 45 seconds that goes off every 4 bars roughly?
Would be very useful if any of you guys had any ideas

Re: Skrillex's siren synth?
Make a detuned saw patch, adjust the envelope to make it into a pluck. Automate the pitch up then down very quickly (or use an LFO/Performer in Massive). Link the automation to a filter cutoff too - possibly use scream/daft filter in Massive. Reverb/dimension expander and distortion to taste. Something like that.
Re: Skrillex's siren synth?
Try looking for a laser rather than a siren:
I believe there's a preset in Massive called Tube Core or something like that that has the same type of sound.

Did someone not start a September one? Oh well...
Looking for a point in the right direction for this Roksonix bass at 1.09, just after the initial drop...
Deffo Massive, but I draw a blank when trying to make these high pitched basses commonly found on Circus...
Wuv you long time

Thanks man, will try this. By making the envelope into a pluck, do you mean keeping the level / attack so it builds up and then cutting off the sustain / level after the initial attack?

I think the difficulty you might be having is that they often (this one does) consist of two "bass" synths at the same time in different octaves.Misanthr0py wrote:Did someone not start a September one? Oh well...

the higher pitched one is easier to hear, its a screamer osc with two scream filters on it set to different pitches of scream and opening up with an envelope just like this tut here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP2rKjkEufU
but its combined with a more traditional synthy sounding bass with a saw-ish feel to fill out the sound which i think is based on the escalator osc with some kind of lp on it. its got all its lfo things set exactly the same as the other so they sound like one thing.
Re: Hard Hitting Basses
most people wont answer you because its very complex and your question was not very specific. especially the second tracks drop. there is a multitude of things going on there. there are about four different synths playing, each one quite complex, there are formant filthers, exciters, fatners, choppy gates and stutter edits and all sorts. underlying this is solid composition.Hellrayza76 wrote:In a lot of songs I listen to there are some hard hitting, screaming basses that get the adrenaline going. My question today is how would I go about making these in massive and FL studio? I have gotten some of the basics down on making the basic basses but I can't figure out how to make the hardcore bass, and bass drops.
And of course there is also Skrillex.
my advice to you for a start is find a sound that you like in the massive presets (the basswisser preset might be a good place to start) and take it apart working out which bit does what to the sound. then hit file/new and try to build it from scratch (not a memorised replication, but an approximation based on feel of listening). this will give you a pallet of techniques when creating a synth sound you like.
then there is the composition; don't think of a bass drop as just a bass and drums, think of it like constructing a whole new track within a track. think like a band; the reason that most rock bands have a bassists, a rythm guitarist and a lead guitarist is because that combination really works.
the originators of that sound mostly listened to 90s rock, metal, screamo, and glitch/IDM. and a lot of the techniques they use are straight out of those genres.
for example if you can bear it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VfYS8Ui2kA
-you'll notice that the high pitched guitar at the intro is very similar in use to the scream bass, and at 2.00 they go into what is pretty much a pre-dubstep dubstep bass drop.
and in this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnZVY7ksMr0
you can see the glitchy choppyness that you frequently get in these aggressive bass drops.

Strange Shrieky Metallic Lead
Hey guys,
First of all, please don't come in here with any "fuck brostep" bullshit. This post has nothing to do with a genre and all to do with a production process I'm curious about. In this track (i'll post the url to the youtube vid) there's a very strange, grimy, shrieky, metallic sort of lead sound. I can describe most sounds, but I have no clue how to describe this one, so just listen.
Its the sound at 1:33 in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13ceozaMh8Q
Will SOMEONE please shed some light on to how this sound was possibly made, or how to make something similar?
Thanks!

Looking for a low bass sound
Hey All,
please direct me to anything existing if you know of anything, i'll be happy to check out anything. The sound i'm after is a real sounding bass, played like disco bass players did back in the 70's, but of course.... nice and hard for 2012
I'll give a few examples
bass around 0:55 - best example.
basa around 1:00
I use massive, sylenth and zebra... i have abl2 which is pretty good for these types of lines, and the way i can get the closest sound... but it's not my most favorite. Thanks all!

i do actually enjoy that feed me tune haha
hm sounds like some really good multiband compression or just a sub underneath the actual bassline to give it the power you are talking about

Making the badklaat/p0gman/ponicz/requake etc synth?
Hey guys just wondering if anyone knows how to make that famous badklaat,ponicz,requake,p0gman noise? Closet i've come to it would be using putting duckorgan through the first osc in massive with a daft filter cutoff hooked up to it and some bass in the other osc... But its just not the same i dont think.. Looking to make more these type of synths if anyone can share their knowledge!

the sound at 3:03, the ones that get panned around and sound like there's a lfo on a filter.
I can't figure out how it works. It sounds like some filtered white noise. but how? Some crazy stuff going on there i guess.
edit: i also figured it might be 2 flangers at different "pitches"
P.S.: Those scifi type of sound generally fascinate me a lot. Crazy synthesis knowledge nessecary for those. Anyone else feeling the same way?

What I am interested in, is the movement of the sound right at 0:40. I am not really interested in the sound of it itself, but more the movement.
