I can think of a bunch of reasons beyond "biological/reproductive" issues
that stop females for taking this up as a profession...

Try parents being exceptionally more attentive and overprotective of female children...
That leads to an entire wave of debilitating programming...

The whole battle element is a huge turn off to most girls...

How about this one....

I've tried to read some technical manuals that come with gear...
and I've been like WTF!!!
...and then a real person will show me and I'll be like - that manual was written by a verbal idiot.

so - here's a good one...the work vs. return ratio may be off...

What's a girl gonna do with a bunch of groupies...we don't have bushels of seed to be spreading around...

lol

If girls get caught swarming men - It's not a good look...

OK - so swarming does fall into the biological/reproductive category...

BUT - Men who get swarms are respected - women who get swarms are dangerous vixen.

It takes a special type of bitch to accept that role...usually a stupid unsavory one.

so the definition of success for women varies from the established masculine one...

But we can argue that...

Here - correct me if I'm wrong on this one....

It is my perception - Not in the music industry per say - but just with work in general...

That men - having and understanding of the "financial burdens" of other men...
ie must have money to have wife and family...

are therefore more apt to co-operate/help another man acheive life goals...identify with him..

whereas when they are faced with a female...she should be occupied with finding a husband...

...unless she is black or gay...

I have a real life example - happened to me a couple of weeks ago...

I am re-doing my parents front garden...
and I am well experienced with handling bags of mulch...

I go to the home depot to get 10 bags and am about to load them into my Dads truck...

and this man comes up and stops me - says he hates to see a girl handling stuff like that...
and made me wait till the shop sent someone out to load the truck...

It made me feel guilty like I shouldn't have started a project...

She's absolutely hired.

In the book - "The Machiavellian Manager's Handbook for Success" - It says...

To sabotage a competitor...get an "attractive" female on their team - they will implode

You ever make any tunes BM? I know you can mix but you just hinted that you've at least messed with some synths or drum machines or something. You have good taste in music, I'd be interested to hear what kind you create.

Also this article is relevant: Why are female record producers so rare? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19284058

Though its speaking more along the lines of a traditional 'producer' from a pop/rock kind of perspective.
