Guys I stayed up all night doing studies of goats and rap music and measurements and that.

Turns out the GOAT MC is a tie between Yung Lean and Slick Rick.

We can lock the thread now.

ok, I have never liked the goat-term, but I will throw in Defari here... He have never achieved mainstream succes due to he always sounds mellow. Imo he have a row of great singles + albums (and a few bad ones, and the usual fillers on albums), but I am always curious about what he have to say. And when he got Alchemist or Evidence on the production board, things usually cook up really good... I actually liked that he tried to turn his style more gangsta during the latest years. I think he could have been a 2pac styled mc. if he was more dramatic and direct in his storytelling. With a better voice and flow imo..

A more realistic choice would be Madlib. If you only look at his mc performance, he have shined in group constellations (Lootpack), as a weird solo mc (Quas) and as a dynamic duo (Jaylib). He experiments, switch up styles and are still interesting to follow, even after one and a half decade...

oh, and would it have to be a (near) olskool mc, I will vote for Kool G Rap.

I've always thought Madlib was god awful on the mic. Only listen to him for the beats. He just mumbles weakly in that low monotonous voice about records and weed. Granted quas switches it up but again it's not the best rapping or lyrics in that either it's just the unseen was a damn good album structurally and beat wise. He basically has the skill to write a good track or album but his rapping has no technical flare or even sounds that good beyond just fitting with a track.

Sums up the fans of his rapping quite well.

Defari is dope but I don't think he's skilled enough lyrically. Though he's skilled and a dope MC.

Madlib's not an MC. He fills tunes up with vocals, but he's a DJ and producer most of all. Though his verse on 'Turn the Party Out' on Tha Alkaholiks' first album actually surprised me with how tight his flow can be.

Likwit Crew wise, Xzibit and Tash can lay the claim to "G.O.A.T." much more than either Defari or Madlib can.

I think you'd have to give it to King Tee (the man who Biggie ripped off, for those who dont know)

King Tee is dope and semi-oldschool... but too many misses imo.
Played Like A Piano, Monay, Free Style Ghetto and so on, are favourites!

Likwit has tons of dope MCs. The only true misser there is J-Ro. Phil Da Agony isn't super lyrical but his style makes up for it, I don't think E-Swift is half bad as a rapper either, has some good punch lines on occasion. Xzibit in his prime and especially Tash are the best of the bunch, though. Closely followed by King Tee.

As far as quality tunes go, though, Likwit > all.
