Re: what do you think is THE BEST dubstep tune?
it's not about how much you rate an album, more about if you were to pick one album that captures what dubstep was all about (the typical sound, mood etc). and none of those albums are "typical" dubstep albums - either have techno-y tunes, or vocal tunes etc
Re: what do you think is THE BEST dubstep tune?
id say the ital tek and pinch albums are very typical of the dubstep sound at the time of their release.

to me the dubstep i've heard in clubs and listened to has always sounded more like underwater dancehall than my demons. that being said i never used to go to nights with that heavier dubstep sound

Isn't it a bit ironic to take an album as a example to capture what dubstep was all about? Dubstep was and still isn't a genre where albums are a common way.
And tbh, if there's one artist that should get the first place, it's Burial. He's one of the few that really made an album in it's original state. And not a compilation of tunes where a coherent state is unknown.

garethom wrote:Might not be that unpopular tbf, but no album captured the essence, weight, moodiness of dubstep like Distance - My Demons did. Ultimate dubstep album imo. Memories Of The Future comes close.
garethom wrote:Skream! is a good album, not as moody as I think dubstep was in general though. Like if somebody in the distant future says to me "What was dubstep, but I only have the patience to hear one album, no singles", I'd play My Demons.
^same thing with burialultraspatial wrote:lol it's not about that. just that it wouldn't be the best example since it has vocals. imagine listening to that for the first time, loving the vocals and then expecting dubstep to have vocalsNihilism wrote:A little bit conservative, no?garethom wrote:As I mentioned, that come close to being the ultimate dubstep album. Thing that makes it fall of being the best example is the vocals. I really like the vocals on MOTF, but by its very nature, dubstep is largely vocal-free.Nihilism wrote:Memories of Future is imo the best dubstep LP.
again, it's not about how much you rate an album, the artistic merits etc., more like how accurate can it depict what dubstep was all about. think of it like what's the most typical dubstep sound (the mood, the halfstep beats etc)

Re: what do you think is THE BEST dubstep tune?
not disagreeing it's a great album. it's in my top 10 for sure. just that imo at least it's still a bit atypical. would probably pick only qawwali, one blood and battered 2 as representative
to each their own tho

I think the coolest thing about dubstep was the creativity
Why do you want to find the most middle-of-the-road halfstep typical thing you can find?

Are you saying "My Demons" is middle of the road halfstep? Might've misunderstood you, but if you are, I'm gonna search through all the big ups I ever gave you and remove them.Harkat wrote:I think the coolest thing about dubstep was the creativity

The conversation didn't start to certify some dubstep classic. See:

It was a pretty specific situation.

There are vocals in, that doesn't count.

plus it's not that good anyway
Re: what do you think is THE BEST dubstep tune?
But i don't think you can count the samples in Burial as 'vocals'.
Re: what do you think is THE BEST dubstep tune?
We've all agreed on RWTP, end the thread now please.

No man, My Demons is a high grade album
It's not good because it's the most "dubstep" dubstep you can find though, it's good because the beats are good.
I get what you're trying to find but what's the point?
