The modern "black identity" was a creation of white slave owners in America to distance themselves from slaves and dehumanize black people. Some early black civil rights activists have sought to make the identity "their own", which is why it's now widely embraced by black people as a form of empowerment, but all it really does is create another "class" that the still predominantly white government can exploit politically and does so successfully.

Group mentality is stupid, it's irrational and it's dangerous because it reaffirms racism. It takes a rational person to realize that all humans on Earth are all the same in that they're all individuals..

its also significant to add that their identity imo has a lot to do with the bond of mutual struggle against racism (in all its forms, social, institutional, economic, etc)

kind of like the way the whole modern jewish identity was reshaped by the holocaust

it's just natural that people who have something in common, that they can relate with, are more likely to affiliate together. whether it's a good or bad thing, it's something that's inevitable

i see it as a necessary thing though. i don't think we're ever going to live in some sort of a "post racial" society (at least not within at least a hundred years i think) where "no one sees race" and everything is an egalitarian paradise. some people are always going to

imo cure racism by never having sex with people of your own skin color. that way within a few hundred years we'll all average out

I know you're joking, but race is a factor in people (for the most part) agreeing with me. I think white people in the west are given more room to develop individualist rather than collectivist type thinking than racial minorities are. When you're a racial minority in the west, you're reminded by both your peers and the white majority that according to them, you belong to a particular group. The white racists do it out of racist reasons, and the racial minorities do it to find strength in numbers. So I think it's harder to shake a group-mentality if you're a minority (this isn't an absolute mind you, I'm talking about odds).

White people don't have the same incentive to be collectivists. Most still develop collectivist type thinking anyway since this is dominant modus operandi, even in the supposedly individualist west. White people are given more room to be individualists because the same type of pressure isn't there. White people already have "strength in numbers" and aren't singled out the way minorities are.

Well, it's not necessary and it's dangerous because it reinforces racist thought patterns and actually makes it worse in the long run. When they 'bond together' under a single identity, they're making themselves a much easier target to manipulate and control by those in power. American politicians try to appeal to black voters, and they do that by being appealing to the black stereotype and people adopt stereotypes to fit in (white people as much as black people obviously). The intention may be positive, but the realistic effects are negative. It clearly doesn't work.

There were cultures that had no concept of sexuality. I agree that people will always be driven try to form subgroups, but I think the human mind is flexible enough where those categories can be based on something more profound than skin color if individuals are raised the way.

I mean the aim with their music is usually to spread a positive message but if they just keep calling everyone else a ****** their music loses half its relevance imo. true, but I'd say this isn't entirely a case of implementing a solution. I'd say it has already been implemented to a degree because I mean, we all know what is right here. Regardless of our heritage or skin colour, most of us realize that ultimately we are all the same. But even though this is no new epiphany to society, we still often choose to divide ourselves over race. And I think thats what phigure was trying to say and anyway thats what Im saying, is that its not about postponing, there isnt anything to postpone in the first place. Its more like this is a process that will take a lot of time, that is just how it is.

it will need to get to a point where racist jokes are considered too old and err, primitive to be funny anymore for humanity to reach the genevievian utopia.
