Gwan fight yer fuckas.
Loads of music journalists seem to be more into sociological comments on music that may or may not deserve it, than the music itself - this is sometimes educational and entertaining, sometimes not. Seems to be that we like journalists when they're thoroughly involved in the scene and supportive, and not when they're saying something we don't want to hear - this is pretty obvious from the political affiliations of readers of most daily papers.
Without criticism nothing moves on and nothing develops - and for what it's worth, somebody that goes to a dubstep gig that isn't part of the scene is perfectly entitled to comment on it as much as someone that is. They may have something far more interesting to say about it in the context of other tastes than folks who seem to blind themselves to certain factors due to their involvement in it.
To say that journalists have no value in society is complete BS - although the crusading, wrong-righting guys may be thinner on the ground than they were years ago, there are still enough that keep the goverment on it's toes and can cut through much propaganda to get the facts out to the public - Nick Davies and Nick Cohen to name but two, which helps keep the public informed and aware of those little hypocrisies we should know about.
Not really the same in music journalism, but there are definitely passionate folks trying to push unsigned acts and create a buzz about new music, so you can't tar them all with the same brush. The fact that a lot of people do this for love not money is another indicator that it's not just all free-loading liggers trying to get free booze and cd's, and not destroy things just to sell a copy of their rag.
Hmm....

lol
not clear on the direct links between dubstep and international finance capital, but we'll all take your word for it.
Ooh, there's a lefty in the house. Maybe we should all grow our own food and sing songs about making the world a better place?

Loads of music journalists seem to be more into sociological comments on music that may or may not deserve it, than the music itself
i've noticed that sort of thing quite a bit on various dubstep blogs
i'd rather hear whether or not a certain tune is good than read page after endless page of the blogger in question's opinions on the underlying sociopolitical commentary that the music supposedly provides
a bit of poetic imagery here and there is all very well and good, but it gets a bit overbearing at times

Did use to like the pretentious music critic on Steve Wright years ago - "symphonies of shattered glass" - ROFLMAO

All writers, whether they be journalists/novelists/poets, need a great editor who can sift through the pretentious shite and just leave the good stuff. Bloggers are their own editor and so alot of self-indulgent shite will always seep through.

is it?
NO.

i dunno if you thought i was in denial paulie but i certainly made no attempt to conceal my 'interest' in the sense that i am sometimes 'a journalist' - i was actually criticising certain aspects of music journalism earlier on this thread but i suppose the idea that things might be anything other than black and white is beyond you.
i was up for debating this for a while but this is just getting retarded now. shame people have to ruin an interesting discussion with their bait, fifth form level generalisations.
large up nine, large up ufo, large up all those people who have the intellectual capacity to see degrees of difference in things.
