I use UAD plugins with Logic, and it really shows how Logic's delay compensation is a total joke. Like, not professional in any way. When you try to add in external midi instruments to a tune that uses buses with plugs on them you get crazy, unresolvable delay issues.

I switched from Cubase for Mac to Logic and while I'm mostly glad I did, I do really miss the seamless way Cubase handled delay comp.

Nah. I'm running 10.4 still, which means no updating to 9.

At some point in the next few months I'm going to get a new computer - at that point I'll update.

yeah in snow leopard version 9 has been solid as a rock for me. No bugs, and its more efficient

When u make loop/mapped sample instruments with the exs, and then move the audio data. it is no longer recognized.. which is logical since exs instrument files are about 100kb...

id like to know if it is possible to record the instruments with the data, a bit like it is possible with NI Battery. Or if it is possible to reassign the instruments new location from a browser.

if not how do u organize ur folders. ( i have all my loops on an external USB 2.0 hard drive (which i regret cuz i wish it were firewire)

It's annoying to have to do it this way, but: export the samples to a place inside the project folder.

Lazy tip for getting nice feel on your drums if you don't have good natural rhythm:
Play your drums in with a keyboard/pads, quantize to your desired timing, go to Q-Strength in the Advanced Quantization menu and pull it down from 100% 'til you restore some of the original groove whilst keeping things nice and tight.

Yeah, humanize is an even lazier way!

I like using midi thru and Q-Strength though because then you're the human that the feel is coming from and not an algorithm. It also leaves you in charge of the velocity and is super quick.

By the way, I'm new here and I ruddy love it. Nice one to everyone here for making it such a helpful, friendly place.

maybe it's a stupid question but... is there a gater in logic? i don't mean the spectralgate, a proper gater-effect like in traktor. gating is an integral part of my on-the-fly remixing stuff in traktor, so whenever i start up logic and work on tunes i miss having one :(

well its less than ideal, but you could use logics noise gate and trigger it to open/shut with some hi-hat samples as a sidechain input. Thats the original and oldskool method of making trance gates etc...

Easily done: Inserts > Modulation > Tremolo > Depth = 100%, Symmetry = 50%, Smoothing = 0% (for hard gated sound), Phase = 0º, Rate = likeyaknowwhatever.

Have fun.

good to know that back in the day there was substance to making trance  nowadays you just dl vanguard -> insta-trance (especially in industrial/ebm, there's a combichrist album made mostly with vanguard presets)! makes me wonder how long it takes until we have the first dedicated wobble-vst's

AIGHT

heres a question :

i have that really complicated mixer path where everything busses everywhere and ends at .. say... bus 9.

On bus 9 i have a WOW filter from sugarbytes..

i want to automate the rate of that thing... so it follows the automation im giving another sound that is also bussed thru this chain.. so a part of the sound goes thru wow...... thing is the automation IN wow.. is limited..

id like to write the automation for it in Logic.... which i would be able to do if my instance of wow were on a Softinstrument Track... (shown in my arranger view)....... but it aint... its on Bus 9.. remember

how do i automate it? is there some way to link it back to an empty audio-software track that is shown in the arrange view so i can write automation for it...

already tried to blatantly press rec and tweak with my touch pad... i felt fooled..

help plz!!!

Think this is what you're after. Right-click, show track in arrange window, should pop up in arrange window and you can automate to your heart's content.

there's the old school way to do it too. create a new track in the arrange window (any type), then right click on that channel. brings up a list of options including one to reassign the track to any different channel in the mixer, including the master.
