Hi, that's my pretty poor first attempt on making dubstep XD

http://soundcloud.com/glbracci/skrillex-style

The mix is bad that's some clipping, but i'm not at the mixdown yet.

@ serox thanks for the tip ,in between sample and synth.

@z6z very nice sub, nice vocals but dont feel the bassdrum riddim in this context sorry maybe less bassdrums

@ideate nice wip always love when sound goes over melody maybe just resample some sounds again and layer them on top with 7 seminotes up for some hi ends but thats only an idea would work out without it too

@ddr love your subs always powerfull the sound at the 2.02 mark reminds me of the metal gear 4 song old snake :6: maybe just switch the drums a little bit up

heres another wip from me

@BudSpencertron
Dude, that's a cool wobble! ;) Only advice is, I would change the LFO rate on it sometimes, so that it doesnt become boring. Best example i can come up with now is Get tuff by Helicopter Showdown. but don't copy them, make it different :W:

@z6z: tracpped, nice atmos, I like it, has feeling! the crackle is a bit repetitive and a bit loud in the mix. Where is the bass?
umn... where is your subwoofer?

Must be really low because I cannot hear it
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

@BudSpencertron I like the intro and the vocal, but when it drops it feels a bit weak the snare I don't personally like but I do like the mid bass maybe make the sub a bit more stronger then it will sway nicely. (I do really like the atmosphere though)

@Mirrors Intro is a bit long cut it too around 30 seconds most brostep drops then, I'm against wobble so I wont have much nice to say

@BevOh The kick and snare deffo need punching up!!!!!!!, another case of me hating wobbles! the mid bass does fit well though where is the sub?

Another relaxing project I been working on I like the intro so far after the drop I just whacked anything together so forget that part lol
Any feedback appreciated!

bro ur supposed to give other people feedback first, in case u didnt read like ANY of the posts in the thread.

But i listened to ur track, id switch up the drum samples a little sounds pretty damn mechanical and has like, no feeling to the beat. Sounds like a premade drum kit on your DAW. The wobble is pretty subby as well u cant really hear the drums when its wobbling.

@ BLUNTIOT: I liked it, because of the saxophone thing. But you should make the intro wobble that's pitched up seep into the main part more, like fade or something.

@ LUCAS KANE: I really loved that piano, what is it? Is it a sample, a real piano, a synth'd one? The track reminded me of Beauty by Silkis :D Nice job, keep it up!

@ BudSpencerTron: I was really diggin the vocals in the intro, but the wobble is so cheesy :| I don't really know what to say besides that, it's just pretty bland imo. No energy.

Here's my latest WIP: I don't have the drop yet, just a placeholder sub. There's gonna be a sample where the silence is, I just haven't found one yet.

@chaddub thanks for the honest feedback; i really like the power of your sub but the snare isnt fitting well is it a roland snare? try to layer it with a clap ;the intro melody is really nice :W:

@daemonxz really nice wip love the filthy midrange wobble

@lucaskane thanks for feedback love the sub bassline and the percussions maybe just go for a really small reece wobble moving away from the sub

still in progress

The snare is a 909 snare, so yeah it is Roland. Thanks.

@BudSpencertron - Really love the strings at the start and pad, but imo that initial drop does -not- work at all. It's such a stark contrast that all warmth is lost from the intro, even though the wobbles themselves are "warm". Overall really great production, but I feel like you're trying to make something fit that doesn't fit.

@chaddub - will comment when there's more of a complete track, too early for any real feedback imo. Also if you haven't got the main hook of your track down, then what direction are you going in?

@dameonxz - don't give feedback if they're not giving any, period. Once they do, respond :P Had a listen to your wip - overall not bad, despite it being not my taste. That snare lacks a lot of bottom end though, I'd drop in another sample that sits nicely with it, I'd also transpose it down 1-2 notes, as it does appear to be a little high. Take a notch out around 4.5khz also, as it's quite painful on the ears. Synthesis overall is pretty good, tremolo on the lead is good. Some of your "lazery" synths I REALLY like. Good use of phaser.

@lucaskane - really love that intro man. Rim/snare sample is on-point, as is the rest of the percussion. If anything I'd probably ease off the reverb on the snare just a tad. Bass is really nice, deep, subtle movement.

My latest tune/wip:

@ BEVOH: First track was alright, I like the low end on the lower OY OY, it was smooth. Nothing else really to say honestly, just sounds like a bunch of Massive patches. Second track was WAY better, SO much flow. Holy shit this is tight. Maybe if you took away the rest of the high end from that wobble/reese thing it'd be better.

@ AMPHIBIAN: That was heaavvvy. As soon as it started I was barraged with a bunch of bass and shit, tight. I like the Jokerish lead you got goin on. What did you use for that guitar sounding thing? The higher pitched synth. Damn this melody is tight. Great job overall. The really open delay in the break is awesoommmeee. The buildup into the next main part makes me feel like I'm on a mission lol.

So yeah, this is my progress on the WIP. I still need a sample, and I'm trying to make the pre-drop buildup not take up all my headroom, weakening the drop, but it's difficult. I'm getting there.

First on your tune - I feel like it's rather disjointed. Synths don't really gel together that well and so the drop really feels out of place. Can't help but feel that you're going for a skrillex vibe, especially with that lead in the intro. Your kick needs some more top end, I'd probably swap out the sample with a kick that "bounces" a little more. Snare is very weak, needs some layering, saturation, compression.etc. Try using some New york (parallel) compression on your drums also. I think a more shuffling hi-hat pattern would suit your tune better also. Basically you need to tie your elements together. I don't know how experienced you are in production, which is why I usually don't respond until the track is almost done, otherwise people go "oh I was about to do that, still need to add more here.etc." which just wastes people's time. Not saying you've done that, just clarifying why I usually wait to comment on WIPs :)

Thanks a lot for the praise man, appreciated :) The "guitar" synth, is just a sine wave overdriven and saturated with a nice amount of reverb, and a little cutoff automation.

Thanks man. i dont think i messed with drums much in that one so il definitely have a look at incorporating some of the stuff you said because i agree with all of it. Kick is weak, hats are boring. i think i just underdid the drums and overdid the synths/basses. Is there any decent free parallel compressors out there? In regards to my experience, id probably be sitting on 1-2 months of producing every second day for and hour or two. So not that much.

Dude...look at who I quoted. lol. I wasn't responding to you :P I don't respond to anyone who hasn't responded to my work, through past experiences (literally 2 pages of feedback for the past 20 posts and not a single response). So now I don't bother unless I know the people well enough that they'll actually respond, no offense :)

Ahh true... just assumed it was mine because mate said the same kinda skrillex thing the other day and the comments on my track are talking about the same kinda drums issue haha... got confused cos i was in the quote aswell haha. Your track was fresh tho, feel like i cant even give feedback on it which is probably due to lack of experience (seems stupid me giving you advice) but the trip hoppish kinda feel is really nice. But my question about the compression still stands, you know and good ones?

Just your stock-standard DAW compressor will work fine. I would google/youtube parallel/new york compression if want to learn about it though :)

PS - every single one of the sounds in my tune uses stock plugins - don't under estimate them :)
