@z6z: tracpped, nice atmos, I like it, has feeling! the crackle is a bit repetitive and a bit loud in the mix. Where is the bass?

First on your tune - I feel like it's rather disjointed. Synths don't really gel together that well and so the drop really feels out of place. Can't help but feel that you're going for a skrillex vibe, especially with that lead in the intro. Your kick needs some more top end, I'd probably swap out the sample with a kick that "bounces" a little more. Snare is very weak, needs some layering, saturation, compression.etc. Try using some New york (parallel) compression on your drums also. I think a more shuffling hi-hat pattern would suit your tune better also. Basically you need to tie your elements together. I don't know how experienced you are in production, which is why I usually don't respond until the track is almost done, otherwise people go "oh I was about to do that, still need to add more here.etc." which just wastes people's time. Not saying you've done that, just clarifying why I usually wait to comment on WIPsChadDub wrote:@ BEVOH: First track was alright, I like the low end on the lower OY OY, it was smooth. Nothing else really to say honestly, just sounds like a bunch of Massive patches. Second track was WAY better, SO much flow. Holy shit this is tight. Maybe if you took away the rest of the high end from that wobble/reese thing it'd be better.
@ AMPHIBIAN: That was heaavvvy. As soon as it started I was barraged with a bunch of bass and shit, tight. I like the Jokerish lead you got goin on. What did you use for that guitar sounding thing? The higher pitched synth. Damn this melody is tight. Great job overall. The really open delay in the break is awesoommmeee. The buildup into the next main part makes me feel like I'm on a mission lol.
So yeah, this is my progress on the WIP. I still need a sample, and I'm trying to make the pre-drop buildup not take up all my headroom, weakening the drop, but it's difficult. I'm getting there.

Thanks man. i dont think i messed with drums much in that one so il definitely have a look at incorporating some of the stuff you said because i agree with all of it. Kick is weak, hats are boring. i think i just underdid the drums and overdid the synths/basses. Is there any decent free parallel compressors out there? In regards to my experience, id probably be sitting on 1-2 months of producing every second day for and hour or two. So not that much.amphibian wrote:

Just your stock-standard DAW compressor will work fine. I would google/youtube parallel/new york compression if want to learn about it thoughBevOh wrote:Ahh true... just assumed it was mine because mate said the same kinda skrillex thing the other day and the comments on my track are talking about the same kinda drums issue haha... got confused cos i was in the quote aswell haha. Your track was fresh tho, feel like i cant even give feedback on it which is probably due to lack of experience (seems stupid me giving you advice) but the trip hoppish kinda feel is really nice. But my question about the compression still stands, you know and good ones?
