Just for the record, Skrillex isn't "self-made" or any of that shit - he got an insane amount of commercial backing and power from Deadmau5 and Mau5trap. He wasn't just "discovered," Deadmau5 heard the tunes he was making, was like "yeah this sound is going to be very commercially appealing", and then they pushed it to Beatport who helped put skrillex into the main view. If I recall correctly, his 'My Name is Skrillex' EP was self-produced and self-released and went on to become reasonably successful - this happened before being signed to Mau5trap. However, he already had quite a significant backing from his band/hardcore days, and I'll agree with you that 'Scary Monsters' only became as successful as it did due to Deadmau5's backing, as well as his later success.

Quite frankly I don't give two hoots about Skrillex. Nice guy, good producer, props to him. He's obviously making loads of money.

But will anyone remember him in ten years' time? Will the brostep fad still be around? I'd much rather listen to songs with staying power than in-your-face ones that last a couple of months before being ditched for the next 'big banger'.

he was still under contract with warner bros? or something when he released my name is skrillex, apparently they were just slow to put it out so he did it himself. he's been a signed artists since he was 16 whether it be rock or edm. the guy didn't come out of nowhere. all that aside his sound was cool when it came out, now it's been beaten to death by not only himself but every kid with a youtube account and even some producers that made cool shit at one point, but have fallen into the trend (hi datsik, feedme, ktn, knife party etc). i think his music is bland as fuck, not because im a hater, but because its bland as fuck. although props to the guy for making money and turning down cheesy collabs, commercials, and whatever else he's done to stay true to his bland sound. big ups skrillex

Yeah, I'm jealous cos he lives off his music and gets all the money and girls that come along with it, but that's no reason to hate him. I'm jealous of ANY musician who does that. Musicians that I love. If I hated everybody who I was jealous of I'd hate just about every musician out.

Don't dislike Skrillex as a person, don't know him. His music isn't to my taste, don't listen to it. His fans don't bother me, they can listen to what he wants.

What does annoy me is a group of raging nematodes who've worked themselves up into a panic thinking that anyone on here has criticised him when nobody has said anything. Near enough everybody on the last page that doesn't like his music said just that.
